Khashoggi fiancee hits at Trump response, warns of "money" influence

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said those behind the killing would be prosecuted in the kingdom.

Speaking at a memorial to Mr Khashoggi in London, she said she was disappointed in the actions of the leadership in many countries, particularly in the USA, and implied Mr Trump was letting money sway him.

He was a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto Saudi ruler, who has purged rivals and consolidated power.

Top Saudi and Turkish prosecutors on Monday discussed the investigation into the killing of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, a show of cooperation despite differences over which country should try 18 suspects who were detained in Saudi Arabia.

That fight in Yemen - a civil war with one side supported by Saudi Arabia and another backed by Iran - has killed thousands of civilians, caused widespread hunger and bred history's worst cholera epidemic.

Turkey's well of information about the killing, which has trickled out in news reports, has put pressure on Saudi Arabia reveal what its government knew about what appeared to be an extrajudicial state-sanctioned killing. The foreign minister also did not directly respond to questions about how the kingdom would persuade its allies that Crown Prince Mohammed had no ties to the killing.

Anadolu said the Saudi prosecutor would inspect the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where Khashoggi was killed almost four weeks ago.

Defence Secretary Jim Mattis, who spoke at the conference earlier in the day, promised the United States would seek to hold accountable those responsible for the death, though he did not mention Saudi Arabia by name.

Angela Merkel steps down as CDU party leader
If Merkel can install her ally Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as party chief, that may buy her enough time to leave on her own terms. Merkel told reporters Monday, however, that she wouldn't try and influence the process of who succeeds her.

In an emotional plea, Hatice Cengiz told an audience in London: "I believe that the Saudi regime knows where his body is: they should answer my demand, for this is not only the demand of a fiancee but a human and Islamic demand".

Mojeb's arrival in Istanbul was the latest step in a high-stakes investigation that could implicate members of the Saudi leadership and potentially reshape the region's politics.

Saudi officials characterize the killing as a rogue operation carried out by agents who exceeded their authority.

Saudi authorities did allow them to take water samples for analysis, local media reported. "I don't want to just trust the Turks or the Saudis".

"President Trump should help reveal the truth and ensure justice be served", Ms Cengiz said through a translator.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that a 15-person team came from Riyadh to kill Mr Khashoggi. "I am disappointed by the actions of the leadership in many countries, particularly in the USA", she said.

Jamal Khashoggi, a columnist with The Washington Post, had gone missing on October 2 when he had walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to collect documents.

"I and my government would like all those responsible, from the person who gave this order to those who carried it out, to be brought to justice and punished under worldwide law", she said.
