Jamie Lee Curtis smashes box office records, tweets the ideal reaction

‘Halloween’ scares up $77.5 million in ticket sales

Cast member Jamie Lee Curtis poses at a premiere for the movie "Halloween" in Los Angeles, California, U.S., October 17, 2018.

This has easily been the biggest opening weekend for director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride, and surprisingly, even for Jamie Lee Curtis. That means that Laurie doesn't have a son, like she did in Halloween H:20, but has a daughter Karen, played by Judy Greer (Arrested Development) and the fact that Laurie and Michael were siblings is also missing from this latest offering. Without another big horror movie getting a wide release before Halloween, I wouldn't be surprised if Halloween sticks at the top next weekend as well. And is the highest grossing horror movie with a female lead. Halloween certainly had huge brand recognition - the 1978 original jumpstarted the Golden Age of slasher films and spawned seven sequels, a remake and a sequel to the remake. Carpenter served as an executive producer and composed the score with his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies.

The film now has 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6 on IMDB.

It was a particularly busy week at the box office as critically acclaimed films such as the young adult adaptation "The Hate U Give" and the Robert Redford swan song "The Old Man & The Gun" expanded nationwide after a few weeks in limited release.

Google Pixel 3 Teardown Shows an LG-Made OLED Display: iFixit
Speaking of the display, unlike the Pixel 3 XL's Samsung display, the smaller Pixel adopts an LG-made OLED panel. Also, last year, the Pixel 2 XL and its LG screen weren't impressive, with users outright complaining about it.

Warner Bros. Pictures' A Star is Born held onto the second place position once again with another $19.3 million., dropping just 32.2% weekend to weekend. It picked up a solid $7.5 million, taking its total earnings to $10.5 million.

That means Halloween was pretty heavily frontloaded, but also Universal could be playing it cool with its estimate and lowballing the weekend total. In its third weekend in theaters, it collected $18.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $171.1 million.

The surprising returns for "Halloween" mark another win for Hollywood, which is up 10.6% from the same point a year ago, according to comScore. It is also the biggest installment from the franchise and the second-biggest debut for a R-rated horror feature behind September 2017's "It", according to Box Office Mojo.
