Jamal Khashoggi: Recording emerges of journalist 'torture and murder'

Mr. Trump said he did not want to get into what was in King Salman's mind. I don't like that. "We just went through that with Justice Kavanaugh and he was innocent all the way as far as I'm concerned", he told the Associated Press.

Trump then said that the Saudi government's denial "could not have been stronger".

The president of Turkey said this issue is under his personal control.

Trump tweets, "Just spoke to the King of Saudi Arabia who denies any knowledge of whatever may have happened 'to our Saudi Arabian citizen'".

It stated that one of the suspects was a "frequent companion" of Salman who was alongside the crown prince during visits to Paris, Madrid, Houston, Boston, and the United Nations, publishing photos showing the suspect in Salman's entourage.

It comes as police who searched the nearby Saudi consulate found evidence dissident writer Jamal Khashoggi died there, according to a senior Turkish official.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with King Salman on Tuesday morning, before meeting with the Crown Prince.

That attitude does not appear to be shared with Congress, as one prominent Republican senator said he believed that the crown prince, widely known as MBS, had Khashoggi "murdered".

India elected to UN human rights body
India received 188 votes, the highest polled by any of the 18 countries elected from the 193-member General Assembly . Among the other candidates, Eritrea has obtained 160 votes, Somalia 170 votes and the Bangladesh 178 votes.

But regardless of which of the three options it is, it's worth asking why the president of the United States is saying the exact things the Saudis would like him to say - at a time when they are supposed to be on the defensive over the potential killing of a journalist for an American newspaper.

"It depends whether or not the King or the Crown Prince knew about it in my opinion, No. 1 what happened but whether or not they knew about it. You are going to get me in trouble", according to the paper, which did not reveal how it obtained the tapes. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from SC, speaking on Fox television. Saudi Arabia initially called the allegation "baseless", but reportedly may acknowledge Khashoggi's slaying, perhaps as part of a botched interrogation. However, in a contrary scenario, the kingdom, highly criticized due for the actions of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will remain as a rogue state in the worldwide system.

Up until this point, Saudi officials have strongly denied accusations that Khashoggi was murdered, saying instead he left the diplomatic outpost on his own.

Saudi Arabia rejected threats to punish it over the disappearance, saying the kingdom would retaliate against any sanctions with tougher measures.

He said it was too early to say whether he endorsed other countries' actions. But his complaint about "guilty until proven innocent" and comparison to the Kavanaugh situation suggested he was giving the Saudis more leeway than other allies.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who vanished after visiting the consulate on October 2 to pick up paperwork ahead of his wedding, had his fingers chopped off before he was beheaded, according to the pro-government Yeni Safak. Turkish authorities suspect he was abducted and murdered by the Saudis.

Khashoggi, 59, had been living in the U.S. for a year in self-imposed exile and writing columns for the opinion section of the Post.

Soylu said: "As soon as (Saudi Arabia) gives the consent, steps will be taken toward investigating". Yet he has also repeatedly said that any potential US sanctions should not include killing a multi-billion dollar arms deal with the Saudis.
