Saudi king denies any information on Khashoggi, orders an inquiry

The uncorroborated leaks point to the brittle alliance between Ankara and Riyadh

"I heard that report, but nobody knows if it's an official report", Trump told reporters, without elaborating.

Mediaite reports the CNN claim is that the Middle East nation is preparing a report that will admit Khashoggi's death.

One source says the report will likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held responsible.

Trump on the other hand has been more circumspect, even suggesting that perhaps "rogue killers" were responsible for the suspected murder - a theory he proffered to journalists at the White House shortly after a phone call with Saudi Arabia's King Salman.

But now Saudi Arabia is under scrutiny, as questions swirl around the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who wrote opinion columns for The Washington Post.

"Global investors are seriously reconsidering their deals with Saudi Arabia due to pressure from the media and their customers", Günter Meyer, the Director of the Centre for Research on the Arab World at the University of Mainz, told DW.

Turkish sources allege he was killed by a 15-strong team of Saudi agents but Riyadh insists that he left the consulate unharmed.

Mr Khashoggi, a Saudi national and U.S. resident who became increasingly critical of powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has not been seen since he walked into the kingdom's Istanbul consulate to sort out marriage paperwork on Oct 2. They provided no further details.

For two weeks Riyadh has denied any involvement in the silencing of the prominent critic who failed to re-emerge from the building after an appointment to finalise divorce proceedings so that he could marry his Turkish fiancée.

Himalayan storm: Climbers' bodies removed from Nepal mountain
A helicopter was sent to investigate and spotted the bodies, but strong winds prevented the rescue team from retrieving the dead. A group of South Korean climbers and their guides have died on Nepal's Mount Gurja after a violent snowstorm hit their camp.

Speaking to reporters as he set off for Florida from the White House, President Trump said he did not "want to get" into King Salman's mind, but added: "It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers".

The U.S. president gave no evidence to support the theory. "And incidentally in this whole case of Khashoggi, [Turkish President Recep] Erdogan doesn't come into this case with what we used to say 'clean hands.' He has a bad human rights record".

"He may go to Turkey".

Turkish and Saudi authorities have now been told to launch a "credible investigation" into Mr Khashoggi's disappearance.

Turkish officials say Khashoggi, 59, was killed when he entered the consulate and his body was removed from the country by a Saudi hit team that arrived in Turkey the same day.

SAUDI KING THANKS PRESIDENT ERDOĞANA delegation of Saudi officials sent to Turkey to join their Turkish counterparts to find out what happened to Khashoggi spent hours at Istanbul Police Department Headquarters on Vatan Boulevard.

"BGR is no longer working for Saudi Arabia", said Jeffrey H. Birnbaum, president of BGR's public relations division.

A Saudi official, not authorised to speak publicly, said the king had ordered an internal investigation based on information from the joint team in Istanbul. "We're going to try getting to the bottom of it very soon, but his was a flat denial".
