Nikki Haley resigns as US Ambassador to UN, Trump accepts

Haley is the latest in a string of high-profile firings and resignations from the Trump administration

"We've solved a lot of problems and we're in the process of solving a lot of problems", he said.

As one of our loyal readers, we ask you to be our partner. "You can have your pick", he said. Maybe in a different capacity.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the two would meet in the Oval Office with media present.

In April, Mrs Haley clashed with the White House when a Trump aide suggested she had prematurely announced a round of sanctions against Russian Federation. On her first day as United Nations ambassador she warned, "for those that don't have our back, we're taking names".

At the recent UN General Assembly session, Haley took the highly unusual step for a senior diplomat of joining street protesters against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, shouting from a megaphone that the leftist leader should leave office.

The role required her to represent the United States and protect the country's interests at meetings of the UN Security Council.

However, there was embarrassment at the global diplomatic get-together when the audience in the hall burst into laughter during Trump's keynote speech, where he claimed that his government had achieved more in two years than "almost any other administration in the history of our country".

For the last month she served as temporary president of the council.

Ms Haley added that nations around the world had also been convinced that Mr Trump "means business".

Panthers S Reid will start against Giants
But Reid has impressed teammates and coaches all week with his ability to pick up the team's game plan and his conditioning. Latimer has the longest passing play of the season for the G-Men when he hauled 37-yard yard pass against the Cowboys.

The daughter of immigrants from India, Haley favored free markets and global trade and earned worldwide attention for speaking out against the Confederate battle flag in the aftermath of the 2015 massacre at a black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

But she said in her resignation letter to Trump she would "surely not be a candidate for any office in 2020" and would support his re-election bid. She also moved quickly to squelch speculation about her political ambitions.

And on Monday, the Washington, D.C. -based watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington called for an investigation into seven private flights taken by Haley that were paid for by SC business executives.

Mrs Haley's Twitter bio had already removed all reference to her role as United Nations ambassador even before her departure was confirmed.

However she previously spoke out against his stance on immigration while he was campaigning to be president.

Born in Bamberg, South Carolina, Nikki Haley, born Nimrata Randhawa, is the daughter of Sikh parents Ajit Singh Randhawa and Raj Kaur Randhawa, both highly educated academics who immigrated to Canada from Amritsar before eventually moving to South Carolina. "She's done a fantastic job and we've done a fantastic job together", Trump said.

What will she do next?

For what it's worth (read: next to nothing), the president said that Haley told him six months ago that at the end of her first two years, she'd want to take a break.

"No, I'm not running in 2020" for president, she joked.
