Corbyn: I will be bound by party decision on second referendum

JOHN-MCDONNELL

Delegates at the Labour Party conference in the northwestern English city of Liverpool will debate a motion Tuesday saying that if Parliament rejects the government's Brexit deal, "Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote".

"There was consensus in the room opposing the Tories' chaotic approach to the Brexit negotiations...and that a general election should be called as soon as any deal is voted down by parliament".

A Jewish Labour MP was forced to rely on police protection at the party's annual conference that kicked off yesterday, as a colleague said anti-Semitic Labour members should be send to Auschwitz to learn the consequences of hatred towards Jews, The Times reported Monday.

The Daily Mirror leads on an interview with shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who says he, Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson want Labour to be in power for 15 years.

Labour is expected to discuss several motions on Brexit at its conference, and it remains unclear what the proposal on a second referendum might be - it could be a clear backing of a vote or something less black-and-white.

Jon Lansman, who founded the pro-Corbyn Momentum grassroots movement that is gaining increasing sway within Labour, told AFP: "The compromise we have got today is a good way of uniting the party".

Mr Corbyn confirmed there will be a vote on the party's Brexit stance during the four-day conference.

Many activists believe, with Mrs May's plans in disarray following the rejection of her Chequers proposals by European Union leaders in Salzburg, the time is now right for Labour to call for a fresh ballot.

Trump accuses China of meddling in USA midterms
More specifically, they target USA agricultural products like soybeans, grown in Midwestern states won by Trump in 2016. It will come out. "I must have had 12 leaders say it, and they just said it", Trump told reporters .

Mr Starmer released an analysis of the Brexit blueprint agreed by the Cabinet at Mrs May's country residence, which he said showed it failed to pass Labour's six tests.

"So if the people's party decide that they want the people to have a final say on the deal, then we have to respect the view of our members".

For Corbyn's backers, the motion does little to change his position that Labour prefers a new national election to a second vote, which will ask a different question from the one posed at the 2016 referendum in which the Leave campaign beat Remain by 52 percent to 48 percent.

"We argued for Remain in the past, but we lost that vote so we have to respect that", he told the BBC.

But counter-protester Les Thomas, a self-described socialist, highlighted Corbyn's quandary, saying "the working class people I know, they've joined the Labour party but are firmly in the Brexit camp".

Previous batches of papers said businesses could face red tape, customers could see higher credit card fees and patients could endure delays to medical treatment.

The key paragraph in the document states: "If we can not get a general election Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote".

The move leaves the Prime Minister brutally exposed to a rebellion by restive Tory backbenchers, with fewer than a dozen able to fracture her fragile control of the Commons in the upcoming vote. We will vote down a blind Brexit."Let me be clear: this isn't about frustrating the process. We are now talking with clarity of voting down the deal if it doesn't meet our tests, calling for a general election, and if that is not possible - we want a public vote on the deal".
