Porsche ditches diesel for good amid VW fallout

"We as a sports vehicle manufacturer, however, for whom diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be diesel-free", Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said in a statement. In fact, the upcoming Porsche Taycan, which is set to make its debut in 2019, will be the carmaker's first fully-electric sports auto. "We as a sports vehicle manufacturer, however, for whom diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be diesel-free", he said.

Blume's statement comes months after Porsche stopped taking orders for its diesel variants in February, roughly 10 years after its first diesel vehicle hit the roads.

The Stuttgart-based company never confirmed if it was ditching diesel for good, and there had been some expectation for the company's new Cayenne to eventually adopt diesel engines.

This push for green may be in part thanks to a more public understanding of the effects of the automobile industry on climate change as well as the Volkswagen's diesel disaster which cost them $4.3 billion in the US and $17.5 billion in Europe in compensation and environmental cleanup.

"Nevertheless, Porsche's image has suffered, Mr Blume said".

Indian flight turns back after 30 passengers report sick
Mr Sharma said , "I was sitting on an aisle seat when suddenly air pressure in the cabin dropped and oxygen masks came down". Others posted videos from the cabin, showing passengers sitting quietly and breathing through oxygen masks.

Porsche has recently faced allegations that its executives were aware of the so-called "defeat devices" being used by Audi engines to deliver misleading emissions figures during tests.

A Porsche logo is pictured during the Volkswagen Group's annual general meeting in Berlin, Germany, May 3, 2018. In the mean time, though, Müller has passed the VW baton to Herbert Diess.

"It is important for us that engines can be driven in a sporty way", Blume told the newspaper.

The German manufacturer says it'll concentrate on petrol, electric and hybrid engines.

"Porsche is not demonizing diesel". "In the future, Porsche will be more Porsche than it was in its past".
