New Accusation Rocks Kavanaugh Nomination; Trump Stands Firm

Sen. Diane Feinstein D-Calif. released a cryptic statement concerning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee seek to delay his confirmation

'Hopefully, we'll have a second judge very shortly who is a fantastic, fantastic man, a fantastic talent and intellect, ' Trump told Geraldo Rivera in an interview taped before The New Yorker posted its story on a new charge against Kavanaugh from Deborah Ramirez, who attended Yale with the nominee to the high court. Senate Republicans should stand up to these unsubstantiated and discredited allegations and move forward with a vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee were notified of Ramirez's claims, and Ramirez and Democrats are now calling for an FBI investigation.

Lawyers for Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, say they have committed to a hearing on Thursday (Friday NZT).

Kavanaugh said in the statement about the latest claim that "this alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen".

Among those who have been contacted: a friend of Ford, who USA TODAY isn't naming to protect her privacy because she is seemingly not connected to the confirmation process. "I am with him all the way", Trump said after arriving in NY to attend the U.N. General Assembly, calling the allegations against his nominee for a lifetime post on the top US court politically motivated. Avenatti, who has said he's considering running for president as a Democrat, said on Twitter his client is not Ramirez. "This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats, created to tear down a good man", White House Spokesperson Kerri Kupec said.

Like Christine Blasey Ford, the professor accusing him of assaulting her when they were teenagers, Ramirez wants the FBI to investigate the incident, and Democratic lawmakers are backing their demands. "She went into many details and at the end of our conversation I told her that I believed her and that it was important she tell me if, what she wished me to do with information, if in fact she chose another path". Kavanaugh also is set to appear at the hearing.

The magazine reported that after "six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections" to recall the incident.

President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington Sept. 6, 2018.

"She added afterward, she remembered hearing a person shout from down a hallway, "'Brett Kavanaugh just put his penis in Debbie's face'".

The two have agreed to a date and time after almost a week of uncertainty over whether Ford would appear at all.

He continuedL "I am with Judge Kavanaugh and I look forward to a vote". "This is another serious, credible, and disturbing allegation against Brett Kavanaugh".

Ms Ramirez said she was mocked and taunted when she remarked it wasn't real, and then ended up touching the genitals while attempting to push the man away.

Defections among Republicans would likely block his path to the Supreme Court.

The second claim against Mr Kavanaugh dates to the 1983-84 academic year, which was his first at Yale University.

David Popp, a spokesman for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said he had not talked to McConnell on Sunday night but that he was unaware of the allegations before they became public.
