Indian flight turns back after 30 passengers report sick

Jet Airways passengers bleed mid-air after crew forgets to maintain cabin pressure flight turns back

A Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Jaipur was forced to turn back when 30 passengers began suffering nose and ear bleeds due to low pressure in the cabin.

After the flight returned, they were immediately deboarded and rushed to the terminal building and administered first-aid by a team of doctors. Mr Sharma said, "I was sitting on an aisle seat when suddenly air pressure in the cabin dropped and oxygen masks came down".

Oxygen masks were deployed during the emergency aboard the Boeing 737, said Darshak Hathi, a passenger who filmed the incident and posted it on his Twitter page. The carrier said it has taken the cockpit crew off duty pending an investigation into the incident.

The NAG is the domestic pilots' body of Jet Airways, claim to represent over 1,000 pilots at the Naresh Goyal- controlled airline.

Recently, Jet Airways was also pulled up by a Bengaluru Consumer Court for overcharging a passenger for an economic class ticket and for losing another passenger's bag.

Others posted videos from the cabin, showing passengers sitting quietly and breathing through oxygen masks.

Going by the preliminary information, an Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) official told PTI, it could be a case of negligence on part of the pilots, stressing that controlling cabin pressure control is part of check before operating a flight.

In a statement, Jet Airways said the B737 aircraft landed normally in Mumbai. The members of the cockpit crew were suspended pending an investigation, and all passengers were safe with only minor injuries suffered, according to the airline. "Thirty passengers had nosebleed, a few bled from the ear and some had headache", the official said. On 11 September, Air India flight AI-101, which had taken off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi for New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, had to land at Newark instead because of multiple instrument failure.
