UEFA to review Cristiano Ronaldo’s red card on September 27

Emre Can

Juventus' Emre Can has apologised for comments about Cristiano Ronaldo's sending off at Valencia, saying there was no intention to "degrade women".

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo was controversially sent off in his Champions League debut for the Italian club.

However, according to the Times' Paul Hirst, Ronaldo is unlikely to face any further punishment beyond the automatic one match ban brought by a red card, and will therefore he available to play at Old Trafford next month.

The encounter will see Ronaldo make an emotional return to Old Trafford, before facing United again, in Turin on November 7.

The panel are waiting for the official report of referee Felix Brych before deciding whether to extend the ban.

Already, UEFA have commenced disciplinary probe against the current world's best player, who headed to the dressing room in tears.

Champions League: Messi hat-trick fires Barcelona to victory over PSV
Gameday 1 marked the long-awaited return of proper Champions League soccer, and it nearly looked like Messi and Co. never left. Lionel Messi stepped up and put the free-kick perfectly into the top corner to give Barcelona the lead.

But he later said: "Everyone who knows me knows about my respect for women".

He is set to serve an automatic one-match suspension which will rule him out of the home game against Young Boys on October 2.

Should Ronaldo incur a three match ban, this would rule him out of both matches with his former side Manchester United.

UEFA has confirmed disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Cristiano Ronaldo following his red card in Juventus' Champions League victory in Valencia on Wednesday.

The Juve superstar was controversially dismissed just 29 minutes into his first European outing for the Serie A champions after tangling with Jeison Murillo.

"Going down to 10 men in the Champions League for an incident like that is disappointing".
