Christine Blasey Ford's life 'turned upside down' after accusing Kavanaugh
One witness the Democrats want to hear from is Kavanaugh's high school friend Mark Judge, who Ford said was in the room when she was assaulted. Ford's lawyers said on Tuesday she would not appear before the Senate until after the FBI investigates the allegations.
Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) met July 20 for roughly 90 minutes with Ford, who lives in her Bay Area district and is a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University, after Ford contacted Eshoo's office about Kavanaugh.
On Tuesday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, was asked if she had heard from any other women about Kavanaugh. "We'll have to make a decision". "I don't think a lot of people are aware of the level of threats that someone in this position can face", Feldman said.
"A sham hearing would send a very clear message that women are not valued in this country", said Sen.
"As a result of these kind of threats, her family was forced to relocate out of their home". "Prosecutors and investigators are confronted with these scenarios frequently and don't just throw up their hands and say, 'We can't decide.' Instead, prosecutors look for corroborating evidence - and there are strong indications already that Ford is telling the truth about her attack".
"I have reopened the hearing because I believe that anyone who comes forward with allegations of sexual assault has a right to be heard, and because it is the Committee's responsibility to fully evaluate the fitness of a nominee to the Supreme Court", the Iowa Republican wrote.
For Democrats hoping to hurt Trump before November congressional elections, when they hope to retake at least one house of the Republican-dominated Congress, the row is a godsend.
The Judiciary Committee has scheduled a public hearing for Monday and has invited Kavanaugh and California college professor Christine Blasey Ford to testify regarding her allegation against him.
A spokesman for the police department in Montgomery County, Maryland, site of the alleged incident, said it has no investigation ongoing. "I did not know her personally but I remember her".
Iran vows to protect civilians in Syria's Idlib province
Thousands of foreign fighters, from China, Europe and the Middle East, are the backbone of the militant groups. There are an estimated 60,000 rebel fighters in Idlib and its surrounding areas.
Trump did say, however, that it would be "very interesting" if Ford "shows up and makes a credible showing".
"If she shows up, that would be wonderful. Her email has been hacked, and she has been impersonated online", it added.
On Tuesday, a woman named Christina King said on Twitter that she was a former classmate of Kavanaugh's and had signed a letter in support of Ford, who has claimed she was sexually assaulted in high school. That underscores a desire to avoid antagonizing female voters at a time when the #MeToo movement has made sexual abuse a major political dynamic.
Hill testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1991, alleging that Thomas had discussed pornography and graphically described his "own sexual prowess".
Why? Because he has no recollection of the incident, he said.
Eshoo joined Ford and Democratic leaders Wednesday in supporting an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.
"Dr. Ford's call for the FBI to investigate also demonstrates her confidence that when all the facts are examined by an impartial investigation, her account will be further corroborated and confirmed", Schumer said in a statement. He questioned whether the hearing would take place if Ford declined to appear.
Clinton says that makes it hard to "avoid the appearance of insult" against Ford.
In an interview with Politico Magazine, Hirono revealed that the Democrats have a mind to keep the empty Supreme Court seat vacant for two years, when they can hopefully get a Democrat in the White House.
