OnePlus CEO Explains Why His Company Is Making a TV

Something to look forward to: OnePlus has gained a reputation for building excellent smartphones with flagship specs at cheaper prices, but it will soon expand into another field: smart TVs.

OnePlus hasn't given any clues about when it'll release the TV, but the company did drop a cryptic hint a few weeks ago that it had something planned for January of 2019. The "benefits of intelligent connectivity" are not limited to smartphones, however, prompting the firm to explore experiences within the user's home.

OnePlus founder Pete Lau says his vision is to make a TV with seamless connectivity to a user's smartphone. It will be interesting to see how the firm undercuts the current players in the market.

The upcoming OnePlus TV will feature a premium design and will offer AI-driven capabilities similar to those provided by Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant "but with more of a visual element". "It won't be something that's ideal and absolutely complete and revolutionary from the start", said Lau.

"We believe your TV has the potential to be so much more than where you watch your favourite shows", Lau said.

SAN FRANCISCO-OnePlus thinks it can change the way smart TVs work. That's all that was needed to make the OnePlus a success, do what the competition is doing, but make it more attractive by selling it for less.

20,336 murders recorded in South Africa from 2017 to 2018 - Police minister
Jeppe (42% increase), Moroko (94% increase) and Mariannhill (50% increase) are other stations struggling to keep crime down. He said the political "destabilisation" of the past 10 years and changed police commissioners led to structural weakness.

The end result will be a smart TV that is not just connected to the internet but to make it smarter and "better connected" to smartphones with them connecting seamlessly to one another. That means combining a smart TV platform that focuses on entertainment with something more like a smart speaker or smart display, which answers questions and controls other devices.

Lau is best known now as the head of a cell phone company, but he has a home electronics and video background.

The One Plus CEO claims that the company wants the whole community to be involved in shaping the OnePlus TV.

OnePlus has had a pretty successful run, with the company's tagline, "Never Settle", driving it to launch handsets that boast top-tier features without breaking the bank. No need to actually finish your project when you can just patch it forever after people buy it!

Lau calls back at the time where the OnePlus community was instrumental in the development of OnePlus One to emphasize that the community will shape the OnePlus TV. "We want a seamless user experience", he told PCMag.

Even so, Lau wants to be clear that OnePlus is taking this seriously, and that the die has been cast: The OnePlus TV is the next big thing for the company.
