SpaceX to reveal plans, passenger for private moon mission

Article intro image

On a Twitter thread underneath the main announcement, a verified Twitter account attributed to CEO Elon Musk tweeted a picture of a Japanese flag.

SpaceX said late Thursday it had signed the world's first private passenger to fly around the Moon.

According to The Verge, SpaceX says that it has signed its first customer up for a trip around the Moon's orbit - though details are scant. Instead, Musk claimed that SpaceX had turned its attention to the BFR after deeming it to be a better fit for tourist missions.

They would have blasted off aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket. The rocket company, founded by Elon Musk, will reveal the passenger's identity on Monday.

Falcon Heavy's flight was delayed to February of this year and the Dragon capsule is still under development for passengers. Next July will mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned moon landing by Apollo 11's Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Bolton to ICC Judges: Go After US, and You'll Pay
Bolton said the main objection is the idea the ICC could have higher authority than the USA constitution and U.S. sovereignty. A Palestinian academic based in the Swiss city of Geneva said the United States move "should not come as a surprise".

In December 2017, US President Donald Trump also issued a directive to "lead an innovative space exploration programme to send American astronauts back to the moon, and eventually Mars".

SpaceX now has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA to supply the astronauts living at the ISS, via regular cargo trips on its Dragon spaceship, launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.

"We've been approached to do a crewed mission beyond the moon from some private individuals", Musk said at the time.

The lunar mission will take place on the company's planned Big Falcon Rocket, a massive launch vehicle SpaceX is developing to make the trip to the moon and Mars. We plan to do that, probably in the fourth quarter of next year (2018).
