Google is Shutting Down Inbox

Google is Killing Inbox

For me, Inbox was an attempt to simplify email and while it certainly had some interesting features, Inbox was too simplified and not really usable because of that.

But in an overhaul to Gmail this year, Google implemented numerous innovative features that were introduced in Inbox. With that in mind, it isn't surprising to see the purge continue, and now Google has announced that it will discontinue the Gmail Offline Chrome app as well.

Google Gmail product manager Matthew Izatt revealed today on the official The Keyword blog of the company that Google Inbox is being retired in 2019. The good news is, you have until March 2019 before you have to switch to Gmail or another app.

One Inbox by Gmail feature that still hasn't made its way over to the standard Gmail service is the email bundling. Google has announced the Inbox is going away in March of next year.

Hurricane watch issued for parts of East Coast as Florence moves in
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has not announced any road blocks ahead of Hurricane Florence as of Monday afternoon. Forecasters said Florence could become an extremely risky major hurricane sometime Monday and remain that way for days.

Now that the big Gmail redesign has arrived, Google is shedding some dead weight by retiring Inbox. Some of them showed up in the most recent major Gmail upgrade, in fact.

Though not entirely unexpected, the announcement is disappointing, particularly to those who have been heavy Inbox users since its inception. At that time, the company will discontinue the app. What started out as an invite-only service, turned into a pretty popular email app.

"Inbox by Gmail has been a great place to experiment with new ideas like snoozing emails to later, as well as try the latest AI-powered experiences like Smart Reply, Nudges and high-priority notifications to help you stay productive", Izatt writes.
