Woodward: Mattis, Kelly denials of his book quotes on Trump untrue

In a series of leaks to the press President Trump has been portrayed by his staff as reckless and erratic

In a related issue, she said Trump continues to have "great concern" about last week's anonymous opinion article by a top administration official published in The New York Times accusing the president of being amoral and being "impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective".

The host then pointed out that Wolff's and Woodward's books are entirely different and need to responded in a different manner because the latter has written more than half a dozen books on the past presidencies.

"The suggestion that materials were "stolen" from the president's desk to prevent his signature misunderstands how the White House document review process works-and has worked for at least the last eight administrations", Mr.

Trump and the White House, along with numerous senior officials including Defense Secretary James Mattis and chief of staff John Kelly, strongly disputed the book's content. He said people in Trump's administration are anxious that the president will sign things or give orders that threaten US or world security and finances.

Woodward told NBC that Mattis and Kelly made "political statements to protect their jobs" when they denied making quotations attributed to them in his book. "I think it is six to a dozen people and I think you ought to immediately start to do what Andrew Jackson did, do what Abraham Lincoln did, find out who is responsible, and fire them". Mattis then allegedly turned to an aide and said he would ignore Trump's demand. "Many have already come forward to say the quotes by them, like the book, are fiction".

And then there's the statement from Rob Porter, the former White House staffer who was sacked after his ex-wives came forward with serious abuse allegations. "But in the end, President Trump is the one who decides, and he has shown himself more than capable of doing so". If I did I would not have been elected President. Dems can't stand losing.

Wind, rain, surge, flood: Hurricane Florence could hit hard
So far, the storm has caused the death of at least 19 people in North Carolina and destroyed thousands of homes in it's path. Helene: The 5:00am advisory on Hurricane Helene has the storm with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour .

But according to Woodward, Cohn's message did not seem to connect.

Weeks after Trump considered sending that tweet, Woodward writes, the president asked the National Security Council: "What do we get by maintaining a massive military presence in the Korean peninsula?"

Trump Jr. also said he's not anxious about his potential legal exposure concerning a meeting between himself and Russians at Trump Tower, and he denied that he spoke with his father about the meeting.

Woodward, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, said the book is based on first-hand reporting and anonymous White House sources, including some who were extremely reluctant to disclose information, or even speak with him.

'And in the end I know what I've done, and I'm not anxious about that at all, because you know, I've done nothing that anyone else wouldn't do in that position, in my opinion'.

"I'm not, because I know what I did, and I'm not anxious about it", Trump Jr. said.
