CBS CEO Moonves resigns after sexual misconduct claims

CBS CEO Les Moonves reportedly set to resign after new sexual assault allegations

"Any payments to be made in the future will depend upon the results of the independent investigation and subsequent board evaluation", the New York-based company said.

The women spoke to the New Yorker after six other women alleged in an article published in the magazine in early August that Moonves had sexually harassed them.

Six additional women have come forward to accuse Moonves of harassment or assault, with the claims stretching back decades, the New Yorker reported on Sunday. "He absolutely ruined my career", television executive Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb told Farrow, recounting a day in the '80s when she denied Moonves oral sex in his vehicle, prompting him to throw her "hard" against a wall a few days later.

The CBS Corp., which has consistently been the most-watched network on television, declined $1.88 to $54.19 in morning trading Monday.

A likely successor to Moonves, at least on an interim basis, is Chief Operating Officer Joseph Ianniello, analysts said. The two sides eventually reached an agreement where National Amusements would retain its 80% voting stake in CBS while also agreeing to not force the merger with Viacom. Instead, the donation will give CBS and Moonves some cover amid criticism of the potential payout.

She went on to say she can't wait for the day where "women are equal, where these stories won't have to happen anymore". "Phyllis said, 'Who would believe me?"

Multiple news organizations reported Sunday that Leslie Moonves, who had been negotiating terms for his departure, will step down imminently.

"In the event" the CBS board "determines that the company is entitled to terminate Mr. Moonves's employment for cause" - meaning that he's fired due to credible harassment claims - the $120 million will return to the company's coffers, according to the filing.

To make matters slightly more complicated, Moonves and CBS are now locked in a war with the company's main shareholder, National Amusements.

Mueller will reportedly accept written responses from Trump on Russian collusion
That's an effort that could lead to a Supreme Court challenge by the White House. Peter Carr, a spokesman for the Special Counsel's office, declined to comment.

In a statement obtained by Variety, Moonves called the allegations against him "untrue" and "not consistent with who I am".

Leslie Moonves, former president and chief executive officer of CBS Corporation, is at the centre of sexual misconduct allegations. Moonves acknowledged relations with three of the women but said they were consensual, adding he had never used his position to hurt the careers of women.

"In my 40 years of work, I have never before heard of such disturbing accusations", the 68-year-old continued. "I can only surmise they are surfacing now for the first time, decades later, as part of a concerted effort by others to destroy my name, my reputation, and my career", he said.

Moonves recused himself from the Commission on Eliminating Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace shortly after claims against him first surfaced in a New Yorker article by Ronan Farrow last month, Hill said.

Financial news network CNBC said the talks are now near completion, with both parties hoping to complete them by Monday, before the stock exchanges open. We feel it's right and I personally know Les Moonves in a superficial way.

With settlement talks already underway, Farrow published a followup story on Sunday.

The company also will replace about half the board, naming three women - Candace Beinecke, Barbara Byrne and Susan Schuman - in addition to well-known media figures such as Richard Parsons and Strauss Zelnick to director positions.

"I think this is a blessing from God to be unburdened from secrets and unchained from lies and now is the time for everyone to look inside themselves and become better people and treat people the way they should be treated", she said.
