US cop walks into apartment she thought was hers, kills man

After her shift ended Thursday night, the officer mistakenly entered the wrong apartment, Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall told reporters on Friday afternoon. She reported the shooting to dispatchers and she told officers who responded that she had mistaken Jean's apartment for her own.

The responding officers administered first aid to Jean, a native of the Caribbean island country of St. Lucia who attended college in Arkansas and worked for accounting and consulting firm PwC.

Guyger was involved in another shooting incident in May 2017, when a suspect took her taser, according to a Dallas Police Department press release.

The shooting took place at the South Side Flats, a development that says it offers "cutting-edge luxury apartments" near downtown Dallas. Although she was off-duty she was still wearing her uniform. The police department and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office will be conducting a joint investigation. Jean was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Hall said the officer's blood was drawn at the scene so that it could be tested for alcohol and drugs.

As the heavy thunderstorm receded on Friday night, a diverse group of people - ample media outlets in the wings - memorialized Jean at the vigil, organized by local activist group Mothers Against Police Brutality. "We understand the concerns of the community", Hall said.

"We're all deeply grieved", spokeswoman Jana Rucker said. I'm getting calls from all over the world.

The police chief said she's spoken to Jean's family to express her condolences and reassure them investigators are working "diligently" on the case.

After Rio museum fire, questions about cause, what survived
For instance, the electricity went out in an annex on the site, causing some frozen specimens to begin to rot. In 2015, for example, a blaze destroyed the prestigious Museum of the Portuguese Language in Sao Paulo .

"There is no evidence at this time to suggest that he was armed", Dallas police spokeswoman Debra Webb said in an email.

Botham Jean, the son of Mrs. Allison Jean and Mr. Bertram Jean, was also the nephew of former national footballer Earl Jean and former parliamentarian Ignatius Jean. "He was a really great guy - like, always the nicest guy", Harvey said of his neighbor, the only neighbor who offered to help two strangers, Harvey and Kinsey, move into their building.

"You want to think it's fiction ... and you have to grapple with the reality", he said.

"Right now there are more questions than answers", Hall said.

Family and friends described Jean as a devout Christian and a talented singer. At some point she opened fire.

Harding University posted a statement online regarding the shooting that said Jean "frequently led worship for chapel and for campus events".

Jean was listed on LinkedIn as a risk assurance experienced associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers. "I don't know if she was exhausted but that's pretty scary", Richard Healy Nelson, who lives in the complex where the shooting occurred, told FOX 4 News.
