Tropical Storm Gordon Brings Hurricane Watch To Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Gordon continued its push toward the northern Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall by Tuesday night as a hurricane, according to forecasters.
The area along the coast (including parts of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi), is now under a hurricane watch, and forecasters do believe that the storm could reach a Category 1 hurricane before it reaches land.
Tropical storm warnings were issued for portions of south Florida and the Keys overnight after the National Hurricane Center upgraded the seventh Atlantic tropical system of the year to Tropical Storm Gordon.
Right now according to the National Hurricane Center (NOAA) Tropical Storm Gordon has maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and is moving northwest at 16 miles per hour.
The National Hurricane Center said at 11 p.m. EDT that the storm was centred 330 miles (530 kilometres) east-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
If Gordon were to take more of a turn to the north then our forecast could change considerably by Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Hurricane Center has named the seventh tropical storm for the 2018 Atlantic season, Tropical Storm Gordon.
Some minor storm surge could occur along the gulf coast as well.

"Any strong tropical storm has the potential to strengthen to a hurricane even when that storm may only spend a day or two over warm waters", according to AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
At the mouth of the Mississippi River, around the area of New Orleans, the storm could generate a surge of up to 4 feet (1 metre) and smaller surges could hit coastland along other parts of the Gulf Coast, Graham said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says a new tropical storm in the eastern Atlantic will strengthen throughout the weekend but does not now threaten land.
The warning covers all of coastal MS and Alabama, the National Hurricane Center said. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center.
"The City of New Orleans is prepared", New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a statement. Storm surge warnings have been issued there, as well.
Meanwhile, Gordon eventually became a tropical storm early Monday morning near the upper Florida Keys.
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for most of the area for the duration of this storm.
Maximum sustained winds of the unnamed system have been clocked at 30mph and the system is moving west-northwest at 15mph.
