Mobile discovers security breach of certain customer information

The T Mobile logo stands outside the Deutsche Telekom AG headquarters in Bonn Germany on Feb. 22 2018

The major US telecom firm based in Washington state on the USA west coast said on its website that its "cyber-security team discovered and shut down an unauthorized access to certain information", including name, billing zip code, phone number, email address, account number and other sensitive data.

But researchers who saw the compromised data say data exposed in the breach is more than what T-Mobile disclosed, Vice says; and that the passwords are likely encoded with a notoriously weak algorithm that can be cracked with brute force. If you are an affected T-Mobile customer you will receive a notification as such from the company which will link you to this page.

The company also affirmed that it has security measures in place to protect customer information from unauthorized access, though they provided no specifics on the details of those safeguards. We truly regret that this incident occurred and are so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

T-Mobile says that all affected customers have, or soon will be, notified.

According to the announcement, the unidentified hackers were a part of "an global group".

One suspect dead, multiple fatalities confirmed after Jacksonville mass shooting
The Landing is an open-air marketplace with stores, bars and restaurants in downtown Jacksonville along the St. CompLexity Gaming, one of the gaming teams, said its player Drini Gjoka was grazed on his hand.

T-Mobile MSG: Hello - We ID'ed & shut down and unauthorized capture of your info. Customer financial records and social security numbers were not exposed in the breach, the company said.

The page describes how to get in contact with T-Mobile Customer Care to ask questions about the data breach and find out what information (if any) has been compromised.

Hackers are continually employing new techniques and tricks to harvest the valuable data of high-profile organizations.

This is not the first time this year that T-Mobile's cybersecurity practices have come under scrutiny. It's unclear, however, whether the exposed data was actually stolen.
