Thibaut Courtois To Join Real Madrid After Chelsea Agrees Transfer

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

Could Eden Hazard join Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid in the future?

Courtois ended his goodbye with: "I wish you all the best for the future".

Chelsea have completed the signing of Athletic goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, breaking the world record fee paid for a goalkeeper by parting with a reported £72m. This would be the second time it has been broken during this window after Liverpool won the race to sign Allison from Roma.

"I've got a new opportunity in my career now and I have to make the most of it". While the £71m transfer fee may appear exorbitant, constituting a record fee for the club and a world record for a goalkeeper, it may not be as astronomical as first meets the eye.

The 23-year-old would be brought in as a replacement for unsettled Thibaut Courtois.

That task looked set to be more hard after he starred for Belgium at the World Cup but, not the type to court controversy, Hazard has not tried to force his club's hand despite making it clear he would welcome the chance to represent Real Madrid.

Nabil Fekir admits he could leave Lyon
One window later, Liverpool can get him a lot cheaper since the manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Fekir. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

In January, Kepa signed a new long-term contract with Athletic until 2025, amid interest from Real Madrid.

"A huge thank you to all my team-mates and the technical staff, who I shared success and wonderful moments with".

Courtois passed a medical at Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital and was later unveiled as a Real player, with Mateo Kovacic moving in the opposite direction on a season-long loan.

The seven-year deal signed by Kepa was made possible when Chelsea activated the 80million euros release clause in the Spanish international's contract with Bilbao.

Real are conscious of the need for more firepower up front, but their most pressing concern is in midfield with Luka Modric desperate to leave the club.

"The only thing I can say is that I want to thank fans for the last four years", Courtois said. "I knew some of the players in the current team because I had played with them in the Spanish national team, even in the World Cup", he said.
