Pres. Trump willing to shut down government over border security

CRTV host Michelle Malkin said that Congressional Republicans looking to retain power are standing in the way of President Trump's border security demands.

Trump claims the wall is key to border security, in effect holding hostage governmental progress to get it built.

Trump's tweet on Sunday came several days after the government said more than 1,800 children separated at the US-Mexico border have been reunited with parents and sponsors after a federal judge ordered the reunions. By tying the issue to funding the whole of government, which must be agreed by September 30, he risks a political showdown just ahead of November's crucial midterm elections. President Trump tweeted. "Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT!".

Congress has given the president some wall funding but not as much as he has requested.

He also called for an immigration system "based on MERIT!", adding that immigrants wanted by the U.S. needed to be "great people".

Democrats and some Republicans have objected to some of the changes Trump seeks. Trump has requested $25 billion to build a wall along the southern USA border with Mexico.

Thomas extends his Tour lead, Martin up to eighth
A gracious Froome said of his compatriot: "It's a dream to finish on the podium with Geraint". Thomas finished third in yesterday's time trial, which was won by Team Sunweb's Dumoulin.

Democrats have long opposed financing President Trump's wall but lack the votes by themselves to block House approval of that amount.

Trump's latest attacks against USA immigrants entering the US illegally - majority from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras - comes as his administration continues to deal with the fallout of his "zero tolerance" policy of weeks ago in which more than 2,500 children were separated from their parents as they crossed into the United States.

Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) told ABC on Sunday that Republicans will work to keep the government open and improve immigration policies. "[Democrats] don't want the wall", Trump said in May.

The administration says some of their parents have criminal histories.

"Congress must act on fixing the DUMBEST & WORST immigration laws anywhere in the world!" Under a court order, the USA government reunited by last Thursday more than 1,800 children with their parents, other family members already in the US or sponsor households.
