Former Raptor DeRozan says thank you to Canada on Instagram

DeMar De Rozan thanks Raptors fans in heartfelt farewell message

Despite recently being traded to the San Antonio Spurs in the Kawhi Leonard blockbuster, DeMar DeRozan seemingly still wants Toronto fans to know he loves them. All I ever wanted to do was duplicate it 10x over just to show my appreciation. In his message, DeMar thanked the city of Toronto for helping shaping his identity.

Under a photo of him signing a throwback Raptors jersey, DeRozan wrote: "Words could never express what you've meant to me".

While most expect Leonard to flee Toronto for Los Angeles at the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign, at least one person in his inner circle apparently believes the star swingman has a future with the Raptors that goes beyond one season.

The image is the only one now on DeRozan's Instagram page, after he recently wiped it clean. Ain't no loyalty in this game.

The Spurs traded Leonard along with Danny Green in exchange for DeRozan, a 2019 protected first-round pick and big man Jakob Poeltl, ending the yearlong saga between the two-time defensive player of the year and San Antonio, which grew contentious because of an apparent disconnect over the state of Leonard's quad injury. Sell you out for a quick bit of nothing. "Soon you'll understand. Don't disturb", he said.

Robinson, a 10-time All-Star and two-time National Basketball Association champion with the Spurs, said last month prior to the trade that Leonard needed to use his voice as the face of the franchise, but clearly that didn't happen.

Yes, the addition of a superstar like James or Leonard certainly would have benefitted the Sixers when it comes to giving them a better chance of competing in the Eastern Conference.

Ujiri said Friday the fans were not forgotten in the trade decision but it's "hard to satisfy everybody".

Robertson is also Leonard's uncle.

After being traded to the Toronto Raptors, Leonard reportedly has no interest in staying in Canada, heating up the speculations that he is heading to Los Angeles next offseason.

DeRozan, who holds several Raptors franchise records, was named an all-star four times (2014, 16-18) during his tenure, and was also named to the All-NBA team the past two seasons.
