Obama dances to traditional music in his home village in Kenya

Barack Obama inaugurates new sports and vocational center in his ancestral home Kogelo in Kenya where his father once lived

Former Prez Barack Obama got in some QT with his Kenyan fam, and showed some love for a new sports training center at the same time.

America's first black president, whose eight years in office preceded Donald Trump's election in November 2016, was in Kenya to open the center, which is run by his half sister Auma through her charity, the Sauti Kuu Foundation.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga refused to undergo security screening at Kogelo, where former US President Barack Obama is expected to inaugurate a project.

"Given that his own mission under the Obama Foundation is to inspire and empower people to change the world, his attendance at this event at our ancestral home, where our father was laid to rest, is of great significance to me", Auma Obama said last month.

"We wanted to appreciate Barack Obama for what he has done".

Trump says he won't turn 'Perry Mason' on Putin over election meddling
His performance so far also will leave Putin - and the American public - wondering what they can believe. Merkel found herself in the front, while Trump straggled behind.

As much as Obama said that Kenya's new constitution was good news and that there is a new spirit of investment and entreprenuership, he added that "we know that real progress depends on addressing the challenges that remain". "Let us also dedicate our time, energy and whatever resources we have in improving the lives of those in need", Ramaphosa said.

He called for economic growth that reaches everyone not only only a few at the top and that it should be broadly shared across regions. "Everybody is a cousin", Obama said in jest.

"It means no longer seeing different ethnicities as enemies or rivals but rather as allies; in seeing the diversity of tribes not as a weakness but as a strength", Obama said.

Obama was speaking at the launch of the Sauti Kuu (Swahili for "Strong Voices") centre set up by his half-sister Auma Obama.

Unlike the 2015 visit when Obama became first sitting US President to visit Kenya, on this trip he is travelling as a private citizen, albeit a celebrity.
