Russian spies charged by Justice Department over meddling in United States election

There are 11 criminal allegations and one forfeiture allegation, according to Rosenstein.

The goal of the conspiracy was to have an impact on the election. He said there's no allegation in the indictment as to whether they actually did affect it, labeling that speculative.

President Donald Trump was briefed about the indictments earlier in the week.

Rod J. Rosenstein arrives for a hearing at US District Court, October 17, 2016 in Washington, DC.

Two days later, the Russians added, "please tell me if i can help u anyhow ... it would be a great pleasure to me".

"One unit engaged by stealing information, a different unit by disseminating the information", Rosenstein said.

A large majority of respondents, 77 percent, said specifically that they view Trump as "self-centered" and just 16 percent said they think the USA president is "trustworthy".

The group also actively targeted and hacked individual members part of the Clinton Campaign, the DOJ said. They accessed information of a US presidential candidate, a Congressional campaign committee, and a national political committee, said Rosenstein. It accuses them of covertly monitoring the computers of dozens of Democratic officials and volunteers, implanting malicious computer code known as malware and using phishing emails to gain control of the accounts of people associated with the Clinton campaign. They created fictitious personas including Guccifer 2.0 and DC Leaks. But Friday's indictment said the GRU officers may have done it themselves while trying to stay incognito. At various times online, the conspirators claimed publicly they were American, then Romanian and had "totally no relation to the Russian government".

The special counsel's office has again given the public another glimpse of the godlike vision the US intelligence community can exercise over the world's Internet traffic.

All 12 boys, coach rescued from flooded Thai cave
The boys, ages 11-16, and their 25-year-old assistant coach became stranded when they went exploring inside after a practice game. A Thai military evacuation helicopter near a cave in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand .

The indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking Democrats' and Hillary Clinton's emails said they began going after the former first lady's personal emails "on or about July 27, 2016" - the same day Donald Trump called on Russia to find her missing emails.

Trump has frequently dismissed the Russian Federation probe as a "witch hunt" and expressed his anger that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from overseeing the investigation. "Watch live", Justice wrote in a tweet.

Third, Friday's move also appears to show that the Mueller team and top Department of Justice officials such as Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein are unintimidated by political threats against them.

CNN reported that the press conference is related to the Special Counsel investigation.

A few hours before the indictments were announced, Trump described the Mueller investigation as a "rigged witch hunt" that is hurting the United States relationship with Russian Federation.

Rosenstein said the internet "allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways".

Among the new details: the conspirators allegedly first tried to compromise email accounts used by Clinton's personal office on July 27, 2016, the same day that Trump appeared to urge Russian Federation to go after her emails at a campaign press conference in Florida.

Additionally, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos have pleaded guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the contacts they had during the campaign with Russians.
