Microsoft’s $399 Surface Go is announced at last

Microsoft Surface affordable tablet passes the FCC

The power and connectivity in a device this small gives you the style and productivity Surface is known for in a more convenient package. The person, whose comments were earlier reported on by TechRadar, added that the tablet would ship with a 10-inch screen and have an 1,800-by-1,200-pixel resolution. Microsoft says the company wanted to offer a no-compromise, predictable performance experience with the Go, thus opting for the classic Intel processors instead of something like Qualcomm's Snapdragon ARM processors.

Pricing in the U.S.is $399 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, or $549 for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. That means Surface Go has everything you would expect from a Windows 10 machine, from features like Windows Hello (signing in with facial recognition) all the way to supporting decades of third-party apps.

Microsoft Surface Go specs: What features does the new budget Surface have?

The Surface Go's price is deceptively cheap; with the cost of accessories, the price quickly increases. The iPad, in contrast, comes with an operating system and apps designed from the start to be used by touch. The device starts at $399 (around Rs 27,400).

Microsoft said: "Surface Go will be available for pre-order beginning on July 10 in the following markets, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain".

Here Are Trump’s Reported ‘Final Four’ Picks for Supreme Court Justice
Without Republican defections, however, Senate rules leave Democrats with scant options to block confirmation of Trump's nominee. Trump insisted he still hadn't locked down his decision, which he wants to keep under wraps until a 9 p.m.

There's also going to be a model with 4G LTE; however, that won't be available until later on this year, similar to what the company did with the Surface Pro last year. This can be disabled for free, likewise, commercial SKUs with Windows 10 Pro can be configured to enable S Mode for free.

And of course, it doesn't hurt to have a lower entry point for the Surface product lineup. The detachable 2-in-1 tablet uses an optional Type Cover keyboard that costs $99.

Surface Go also has the ports you need, including Surface Connect for charging and docking; USB-C 3.1 for data, video, and charging; a headphone jack; and a MicroSD card reader for storage expansion. We can't find an apples-to-apples comparison between the Pentium 4415Y and the Atom x7-8700, but Anandtech's Bench has results for the Surface 3 against the original Surface Pro, and the original SP leads by a substantial margin in virtually every test.

Those who expected a rather boring summer should get ready for a big hardware launch at the end of this week, because - if at least some of those insiders on Reddit are right - Microsoft will launch an affordable Surface tablet this Friday.

Summing it all up, the Surface is a bit bigger, heavier, bulkier, but still fairly light and supporting the full Windows experience, while the iPad is a thin, elegant, light gadget ideal for media consumption, but maybe just not quite as good for productivity. We've played Minecraft on the Surface Go with not a dip in frame rate.
