Former MSNBC host Ed Schultz, has died at 64.

Up until his death, Schultz hosted the evening news program "News with Ed Schultz" for RT America. He built a radio show following that led to syndication with the Jones Radio Network and Dial Global, later being hired by MSNBC in 2009. "Ed Schultz passed quietly early morning on July 5 at his home in Washington, D.C. This announcement comes as a shock to all of us here at RT America", said the channel's official statement.

His son David Schultz, who lives in Fargo, North Dakota, said his father died of natural causes but declined to provide further details. He later changed his political views and became a Democrat.

The Kremlin-backed RT is frequently criticized as state propaganda and was forced to register as a "foreign agent" by the Justice Department past year.

"Ed Schultz was incredibly kind to me when I was first doing TV on MSNBC", Sam Stein, the politics editor at The Daily Beast and an MSNBC contributor, wrote on Twitter.

Schultz's move to RT America was not without controversy, either.

After leaving MSNBC, Schultz signed with RT America to produce "The News with Ed Schultz". In addition, he hosted a nightly television show, News with Ed Schultz, since 2016.

Schultz is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, where as a football quarterback he was named an All-American. I have a lot of desire.
