Defending champ sets record by eating 74 hot dogs

Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest to Air Live July 4 on ESPN2

The counting went awry on Independence Day at the nation's premier hot dog eating contest on Coney Island, ESPN reported, but perennial champion Joey Chestnut was still crowned the champion. Baton Rouge held a hot dog eating contest Wednesday, and no, the contestants weren't exactly pros. The annual Coney Island competition has become a phenomenon over the years.

Shea is now uncertain about what type of technology can be used to tally hot dogs and buns.

Miki Sudo downed 37 franks to win her fifth straight title in the women's competition of the annual Nathan's Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest.

Joey Chestnut is no stranger to competitive eating sports and today marked his 11th win at the Fourth of July hot dog eating contest.

Google lets 3rd-party app developers read your emails
Because many of these apps increase the functionality of your Gmail , Thompson doesn't think Google should do away with them. Gmail has almost 1.4 billion users globally - more users than the next 25 largest email providers combined.

Over a decade ago, Chestnut sent shockwaves into the competition as he dethroned erstwhile six-time defending champion Takeru Kobayashi of Japan by eating a then world record of 66 hot dogs. For starters, while a hot dog and its bun have to be eaten, they don't have to be eaten together. There are 20 male and 20 female contestants, including the defending champ, Joey Chestnut, the winners of regional qualifiers, individual qualifiers and special invitees.

Ten-time victor Joey "Jaws" Chestnut will confront 20 other men during the men's competition later Wednesday for the coveted Mustard Belt. And the men's event will be re-aired on ESPN2 at both 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET, just in case you need to watch all that hot dog fun again and again. The 34-year-old California native trains year round for these events and even though he is a shoo-in for each Fourth of July hot dog contest, he competes in other areas. Prior to this year's competition, Chestnut completed 72 frankfurters in 10 minutes last year.

According to Major League Eating, Chestnut is ranked number one in the world for competitive eating. The 19-woman field includes record-holder Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas. However, first he'll have to battle out last year's runner-up Carmen Cincotti, who scarfed down 60 in 2017.
