Google lets 3rd-party app developers read your emails

Software Developers are Scanning the Inboxes of Gmail Users

From there you will be able to see all the apps that now have access to your Google account, and you can remove some of them if you no longer use them or if you're not comfortable with it.

Because many of these apps increase the functionality of your Gmail, Thompson doesn't think Google should do away with them.

One could say that users are responsible for granting access to their data.

App developers have called it a common practice, but Google's consent agreement with users do not specify if data is accessed by humans or machines.

"Some people might consider that to be a dirty secret", says Mr. Loder.

The company has used a blog post to respond to the concerns raised by the Wall Street Journal, insisting that it carefully vets any third party that has access to sensitive data.

Kasper Schmeichel - With 2 clean sheets in 3 matches, Schmeichel has already stamped his authority on this side. Croatia beat Denmark in a dramatic penalty shootout on Sunday to progress to the World Cup quarter-finals.

Clients and services may require access; a third-party email client needs access to emails, and an add-on that runs directly on Gmail needs access as well.

As per a report by Business Insider, software developed by third parties are able to scan and read your Gmail, apparently without much restriction from Google.

"It includes automated and manual review of the developer, assessment of the app's privacy policy and homepage to ensure it is a legitimate app, and in-app testing to ensure the app works as it says it does", Frey noted. The company also said, "We review non-Google applications to make sure they continue to meet our policies, and suspend them when we are aware they do not". Gmail has almost 1.4 billion users globally - more users than the next 25 largest email providers combined.

Some Gmail users may be shocked when they realize that humans may have read their emails on Gmail. Coming to Edison Software, they are a company that help users in managing their emails.

For G Suite users, Google said admins can control which non-Google apps can access users data. However, looking at how easily users can be tricked into giving apps access, this seems like a bet that Google shouldn't risk taking.

If you want to take a look, navigate to "Google Account", which should be in the top-right section of your Gmail screen on desktop. Google's own employees read emails only "in very specific cases where you ask us to and give consent, or where we need to for security purposes, such as investigating a bug or abuse", the company said in a written statement.
