Trump to order flags flown at half-staff to honor Capital Gazette victims

Candles representing the slain journalists of Capital Gazette sit on display during a candlelight vigil held near the Capital Gazette the day after a gunman killed five people inside the newspaper’s building in Annapolis Md

President Donald Trump denied the request to lower flags to honor the victims of the Capital Gazette newsroom shooting in Maryland.

Five people were killed last Thursday when a lone gunman with a pump shotgun blasted his way into the newspaper office and shot five employees.

Killed in the rampage were Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders fields questions from reporters over what happened with the Annapolis mayor's request to lower US flags on federal property. She said she was afraid Ramos "could show up anywhere, at any time, and kill me".

Mr. Trump has lowered the flag in light of other mass shootings in the United States, and Buckley hoped the president would comply with the request, aiming to keep attention on the tragic shooting.

Hours earlier he had mourned the shooting as "horrific" and pledged "eternal support" for families of the victims.

While some have accused Trump of fostering a climate of disrespect and even violence toward the Fourth Estate, others note that his is a dilemma faced by all presidents.

FPJ's dream XI predictions for Spain vs Russian Federation
Hosts Russia reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup on Sunday when they beat Spain 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The second half was an even more exaggerated version of the first.

Barebo, advertising director at the Post Bulletin, worked at the Capital Gazette from 2008 to 2013 and became friends with numerous staff there.

Despite the White House's inaction, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered state flags lowered from Friday until sunset on Monday, July 2, The Sun reported.

Police found the 38-year-old suspect hiding under a desk and jailed him on five counts of first-degree murder. Some of the greatest people I know are reporters, and people in the media, ' he told a group of journalists aboard Air Force One en route to his New Jersey golf resort for the weekend. "To the family, friends, and colleagues at the Capital Gazette and its parent company, the Baltimore Sun, you have the deepest sympathies of a state in mourning".

Maryland lawmakers who had sought the action were livid Monday when their request was ignored. The paper published a column about Ramos' pleading guilty to criminal harassment after which Ramos sued both the column's writer and then-publisher for defamation.

"Obviously, I'm disappointed, you know?"

Tuesday morning, the City of Annapolis Twitter account said the decision had been changed. "There was a fear that doing so would exacerbate an already flammable situation", said Timothy Altomare, chief of Anne Arundel county police.
