Gregg Popovich meets with disgruntled Kawhi Leonard
Among the issues, Leonard is angry over what he believes was the Spurs' mishandling of his quad injury, and he remains irate with public comments from teammate Tony Parker and Popovich that he felt were not supportive of him, league sources said. ESPN reports Popovich has tried to set up a meeting for weeks.
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne & Adrian Wojnarowski - Kawhi plans to eventually alert rival teams that his intentions are to sign in Los Angeles when he becomes a free agent in 2019.
The Spurs are unlikely to be motivated to facilitate a deal to the Lakers, league sources said.
Leonard has his eye on playing in Los Angeles, preferably for the Lakers, according to ESPN.
Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth share a laugh at Cheshire outing
THE QUEEN giggled, smiled and chatted with the Duchess of Sussex yesterday, their first public engagement together. In Chester, a group of teenage girls skipped school to see the Queen and Meghan - and ended up speaking to them.
According to Wojnarowski and Shelburne, Leonard has not wanted to mend fences with Popovich and the Spurs at all.
Leonard, a two-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 16.2 points in those nine appearances as the Spurs failed to win 50 or more games for the first time since the abbreviated 1998-99 season.
Various reports over the last few months indicated the sides disagreed about the nature of Leonard's injury, how to treat it and how soon he would be able to return to the floor.
The 26-year-old Leonard is entering the final guaranteed year of his contract and is eligible for a supermax extension worth up to $219 million over five years if he stays with San Antonio. Should the team elect to trade him, they would have no shortage of suitors. If Leonard and Popovich did indeed meet, the former's future with the Silver and Black should be obvious to the front office after a season of speculation and questions.
