Apple will automatically share the location of 911 callers in iOS 12

Design your own smartphone and put it on the market against top brands

As part of Apple's iOS 12 update, iPhone users in the United States who call 911 with their mobile devices will be able to automatically share their location data with first responders. The system enables 911 call centers to access a phone's Hybridized Emergency Location data, which includes the phone's proximity to known Wi-Fi hotspots and cellular towers.

"Communities rely on 911 centres in an emergency, and we believe they should have the best available technology at their disposal", said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.

"In keeping with Apple's focus on privacy, user data can not be used for any nonemergency objective and only the responding 911 center will have access to the user's location during an emergency call", Apple added. It will see the location of USA iPhone users shared with dispatch responders during 911 calls. The company has also partnered with a company called RapidSOS, which will securely transmit the data to 911 centers. With this update, all iPhone users calling 911 will also immediately send the call center their location. That should make it easier for ambulances and paramedics to reach callers and shave precious minutes off response times, potentially saving 10,000 lives per year, according to federal regulator estimates. However, in iOS 12 this will be built right into the operating system itself. The new system will certainly come in incredibly handy in emergency situations, and here's to hoping Apple will eventually be able to bring it to other countries. The new Siri feature is based around "Shortcuts", which allows the voice assistant to allow people to do things far more quickly on their phone.

RapidSOS is free for emergency response centers, but is now used by less than half nationwide.

Peru vs. Denmark - Football Match Report
It was a sublime save that secured all three points for Denmark from a game many observers feel they probably deserved to lose . If Peru can stop him they have some fine attacking players of their own, all wearing an absolutely wonderful shirt.

"This is going to save a lot of lives", Wheeler said.

Apple said in its brief that the case "presents issues of national importance given the increasing prevalence of electronic commerce and the agency sales model".

The planned changes were announced Monday in Nashville, Tennessee during a 911 convention.

Apple unveiled the iOS 12 software upgrade at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose. iOS 12 will be at the core of the next new iPhone (s) that likely will be announced in September.
