Judge orders ex-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort to jail

WASHINGTON DC- MAY 23 Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort arrives for a hearing at the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse

After hearing the testimony and not guilty plea of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, U.S. District Judge Amy Jackson revoked his bail and ordered him to jail to await trial.

"This is not middle school, I can't take his cell phone", she added, according to USA media.

Manafort is the first former member of Trump's presidential campaign to be jailed in connection with the Mueller investigation. The witnesses were former business associates who worked on an effort to promote Yanukovych among European leaders and get them to make statements in support.

"What you'll really see is you'll see bias against me and millions and tens of millions of my followers", Mr. Trump said.

Big news, of a sort anyway, in the ongoing special-counsel prosecution of Paul Manafort.

Manafort was on Trump's campaign team from March to August 2016, starting as a delegate-wrangler and serving as campaign manager in the last three months. Westling asked the judge to simply issue a more specific order for Manafort to follow while out on bail.

"This is not middle school", the judge said to the lawyers.

While Judge Jackson said she struggled with the decision, she accused Mr Manafort of treating the proceedings as "just another marketing exercise". "Manafort has nothing to do with our campaign. They went back 12 years to get things that he did 12 years ago?"

"Paul Manafort worked for me for a very short period of time", the president told reporters.

Mueller, whose investigation could threaten Trump's presidency, is also investigating whether the president's 2016 campaign colluded with Moscow and whether Trump has unlawfully sought to obstruct the Russian Federation probe. Gates has since pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a deal with prosecutors.

Reality star Farrah Abraham arrested at Beverly Hills hotel
Well... here's that previously-promised other side to the story! Way back in 2013 she was arrested for a DUI. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and made contact with Abraham , whom the complaint was about.

Manafort had been on home confinement in Alexandria, Virginia, and required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Mr Manafort will remain in jail while he awaits trial in both Washington and Virginia over the next few months.

Former Federal Prosecutor Nelson Cunningham argued on MSNBC host Ari Melber's show "The Beat" that this action is a momentous step in the case against Manafort and in the Russian Federation investigation.

Jackson's ruling came in response to an indictment handed up last week charging Manafort, and longtime associate Konstantin Kilimnik, with obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice, adding to the multiple felony counts he already faced. "I feel a little badly about it".

Manafort's federal trial is slated for September in Washington, D.C. He will also face a federal trial in Virginia in July for related tax and bank fraud charges.

The judge said Manafort had not committed physical violence but rather had harmed the community.

Manafort's business partner Rick Gates, who was also charged with a slew of federal crimes earlier this year, had entered a plea deal with the Special Counsel and is working with prosecutors on the Russian Federation investigation.

Prosecutors have argued that Manafort is a "danger to the community" and that his alleged witness tampering attempts constitute obstruction of justice.

Kilimnik, 48, has previously declined to comment on the allegations and denied being connected to Russian intelligence agencies.

Manafort is accused of money laundering and acting as an unregistered foreign agent of Ukraine as part of a lobbying campaign to help pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych.
