Rebel Wilson's defamation damages are dramatically cut

Rebel Wilson

Rebel Wilson has dropped into Twitter yesterday to 1) Educate her fans about people unlawfully using her image to sell shit; 2) Remind everyone she already won her defamation case against Bauer Media; and most importantly, 3) Show off the gorgeeeee Prague filming location for her next film, Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit.

The articles falsely claimed she lied about her real name, age and childhood in a bid to make it in Hollywood.

The actress was present for two days of arguments in court in Melbourne in mid-April, and told The Project at the time that the entire ordeal had been "awful".

The appeal court removed the AU$3.9 million ($2.95 million) that the trial judge awarded for roles lost because of damage to Wilson's reputation.

In court previous year, she successfully argued that eight articles published by Bauer magazines in 2015 had portrayed her as a serial liar, and that this resulted in her being sacked from two feature films.

Bauer did not appeal the verdict that the articles were defamatory, but argued the Australian-record damages awarded in September were excessive.

Fed raises rates; officials boost outlook to four hikes in 2018
The Federal Reserve announced today that it would raise the target range for the federal funds rate by a quarter of a point. The US Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark lending rate, the second increase of the year .

"What happens tomorrow is to do with the losers @bauermedia quibbling about how much they now have to pay me", Wilson tweeted the night before the judgment.

It was the biggest defamation payout in Australian legal history.

Bauer Media did not challenge the jury's defamation finding in its appeal and sought only for the damages to be reduced.

The Court of Appeal said that, in awarding compensation for economic losses, Justice Dixon "relied also upon his assessment of the trajectory of Ms Wilson's career".

She added: "The reason I'm here is not for damages".

But regardless of how much in damages she's awarded, Wilson said she still considers herself a victor. "In the lead up to today, major media organisations united in an unprecedented way to support Bauer's appeal in relation to that issue".
