Mike Pompeo warns North Korea sanctions will not be lifted before denuclearisation

Former basketball player Dennis Rodman arrives at Changi Airport in Singapore

Trump announced after his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the United States will stop "war games" with South Korea "unless and until" negotiations with the North go poorly.

VIDEO: North Korea's state-run TV has aired its first video from the historic summit between its leader, Kim Jong Un, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Vladimir Putin has invited Kim Jong Un to Russian Federation in September following the North Korean dictator's meeting with Donald Trump.

Pompeo says Trump was referring to the fact that for the first time in history, a United States president sat down with a North Korean leader.

Senator Chris Van Hollen, also a Democrat, said of Trump's tweet about North Korea no longer presenting a threat: "This is truly delusional".

The agreement signed by Trump and Kim on Tuesday said the U.S. would provide security guarantees to North Korea, while Pyongyang committed to denuclearisation.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed the parents of a Korean War soldiers asked for his help in returning the remains of their son during the 2016 presidential campaign. "And that's going to start very, very soon, I believe that's going to start very soon", said Mr. Trump.

WH Adviser Apologizes For 'Special Place In Hell' For Trudeau Remark
President Donald Trump on Friday kept up his attacks on US allies ahead of his trip to the Group of Seven summit in remote Quebec. Trump on Sunday arrived in Singapore, where he and Kim are to meet Tuesday to discuss that nation's nuclear arsenal.

"For this, the ministers exchanged views in detail over the entirety of the South Korea-U.S. combined training exercises", it added.

He added that the North Korean leader has also "put forward a new strategy according to which our country will concentrate all its resources and efforts on economic construction".

North Korea reaffirmed previous promises to work towards the "complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula".

Pompeo said he doesn't know the exact timing. He said he won't disclose specific timelines but that the administration is hopeful that "major, major disarmament" steps can occur before the end of Trump's first term. Pompeo visited Seoul to provide briefings about the U.S.

Trump and Kim met in Singapore on Tuesday. After the summit, North Korea's state-run media indicated that Mr. Trump would grant concessions before Pyongyang completes the denuclearization process.

North Korean viewers had to wait nearly 20 minutes into the program for Trump's first appearance.

Kim agreed to the "complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula", a stock phrase favoured by Pyongyang that stopped short of long-standing USA demands for North Korea to give up its atomic arsenal in a "verifiable" and "irreversible" way.
