Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio Report Salmonella Cases Linked to Cantaloupe

Kroger said on Thursday the CDC and the FDA notified them that multiple illnesses have been reported in connection with this outbreak

Six cases reported in IL matched a multi-state outbreak strain, IDPH said. If you have eaten a contaminated pre-cut melon and experience diarrhea, fever and cramps go see a doctor immediately.

Walmart stores in IL have removed pre-cut melons from their shelves, according to IDPH.

A new salmonella outbreak is linked to pre-cut melons sold at Illinois Walmart stores.

Officials say on June 8, Caito Food, LLC recalled fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products containing one of the melons produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indiana.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is now trying to find the supplier to affected stores. The CDC advised OH and MI consumers who bought pre-cut melon at a Walmart store to throw the fruit away.

Real Madrid To Tell Cristiano Ronaldo To 'Find A New Club'
Both Ronaldo and Bale hinted they could leave Real after the 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last month. The victory came four years after England drew 0-0 with Costa Rica as it slumped out of the World Cup in the group stage.

The includes melons you might buy in a fruit salad. An investigation is still ongoing to determine if other states or stores are affected by the outbreak.

Salmonellosis is caused by the salmonella bacteria.

Other states included in this outbreak include Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio.

The CDC says this particular salmonella outbreak could mean more hospitalized people than usual. For some people, though, the diarrhea that accompanies the illness may be severe and require hospitalization. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days; most people recover without any treatment. The elderly, infants, and those with compromised immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

People are also asked to be careful when handling whole melons.
