Tiger Woods: Golf fans SLAM star after incredible Memorial Tournament recovery

Tiger Woods salvaged his round with a good back nine

The eagle brought Woods to five-under on the tournament, just five strokes off the lead, just as play was suspended due to weather concerns.

"I know I shot 68 today, but that's probably the highest score I probably could've shot today", the five-time Memorial victor said. "I played great, obviously".

DeChambeau wasn't even sure where he was when he finished because so many players worked their way up and down the leaderboard over the final two hours.

If you're a Tiger fan, the exciting news heading into the U.S. Open in two weeks is that this is as good as he's looked all year - and probably in the last half decade - from a swing standpoint.

And one said: "Just noticed Tiger Woods walking off the course and ignoring all the fans, just because he missed a putt on the last hole".

And he was six shots behind with almost two dozen players in front of him. What if, by the time the putter cooperates, the short-range makes are for bogeys instead of birdies?

"I was at 11 under par and then wasted a bunch of shots the last two days and was 4 over par on the first day, so you do the math", Woods said after his round.

Zinedine Zidane quits Real Madrid five days after Champions League win
I will be around, close to this club all my life but the decision, maybe for many doesn't make any sense, for me it makes sense. Zidane said he had insulted his family. "All I can offer is my love and respect and remind him that this is his home".

An eagle from 95 yards at the par-five 11th then moved the fist-pumping Woods to five-under.

Another birdie on the 15th briefly gave him a share of the lead but for the second consecutive day the 42-year-old was left to rue his putting.

That didn't last long. Jutanugarn took the lead after Smith stumbled with back-to-back bogeys and then surged ahead with three straight birdies on the back nine. While that's typically when conditions are the toughest and setups the most penal, it's telling that in a season where he has exceeded almost every other expectation he still has struggled to put a charge into a Sunday crowd, regardless of his position on the leaderboard. The final round will be threesomes teeing off earlier than usual to account for the forecast.

McIlroy almost missed the cut, surviving on the number after two days.

It's hard to overstate just how bad Woods was on the greens. That was still better than Jordan Spieth, who finished bogey-bogey for a 72 and missed the cut by three shots.

Justin Thomas shot 68 and tied for eighth in his debut at No. 1 in the world. Thomas shot a 68 with three bogeys and was seven off the lead. DeChambeau rolled in a 20-foot birdie on the par-3 16th, and he hit 9-iron to 5 feet on the toughest hole, the 18th.

He still was in good shape to win in just his fifth start on the PGA Tour.
