United Nations chief deplores Gaza violence after Israel kills 62

Arab League fails to agree on US envoy recalls

The IDF criticized Palestinian protesters for allegedly making the border unsafe as Israel and "countries around the world provide Gazans with humanitarian aid through crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip".

Thousands of Palestinians had gathered on the Gaza Strip's eastern border to take part in protests marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel - which Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, Arabic for "Catastrophe" - and protest the relocation of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. "Israel will continue to defend its sovereignty and the security of its citizens against the terror and murderous violence of Hamas".

The US blocked on Monday a Kuwait-drafted council statement that would have expressed "outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians" and called for an independent and transparent investigation, diplomats said.

Here's a Hamas leader boasting about using women and children in their terrorist infrastructure project. Israeli ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Aviva Raz Shechter, meanwhile slammed the special session on Friday, saying it was "politically motivated and won't improve the situation on the ground by even one iota".

Protests began after the USA embassy was officially opened in Jerusalem on Monday (local time).

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs also called on the worldwide community to stop the violence against Palestinians and end Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories, state news agency Wam reported.

"The cycle of violence in Gaza must end, it serves no one", she said "I repeat my call for such killings to be investigated thoroughly". Some tried to attack the fence. But Zeid insisted that many of those injured and killed on Monday "were completely unarmed, (and) were shot in the back, in the chest, in the head and limbs with live ammunition", he said, saying there was "little evidence of any (Israeli) attempt to minimise casualties".

US Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday condemned Hamas provocation and said ally Israel had acted with restraint. The IDF said they used advanced technology to "locate, track, and destroy the.5 mile-long" tunnel, adding that the it "did not enter Israel". 50 of the 62 kills were Hamas members.

"The United States deplores the loss of human life", she said.
