RED's hydrogen phone with full 'holographic display' set to launch

RED's Hydrogen One will be available at AT&T and Verizon this summer

For those who are still considering getting their hands on the phone, the good news is that we might now have a timeframe to look forward to and it is this coming summer.

Last year, well-known camera maker RED announced they were making a smartphone with a holographic display. Studios in Los Angeles, June 2-3.

The Red Hydrogen One phone will be available on Verizon and AT&T once it's released later this year. If you're interested, AT&T asks that you first register for the event to ensure a spot is saved for you. This means the phone can handle 2D, 2D, AR, mixed reality and VR, all without additional hardware or headsets.

For its part, Hydrogen One will have a 5.7-inch screen capable of displaying a "4-view holographic content". You'll be able to interact with those images using a set of gestures.

DOJ And FBI Reportedly Investigating Cambridge Analytica
Meanwhile, Facebook announced that it would be notifying users via this website in case their data had been misused. MPs said it was "absolutely astonishing" that Facebook's chief executive refused to appear before the committee.

The Hydrogen One's display grew from light-field display technology originally developed by Menlo Park, CA-based Leia, in which Red took an investment previous year.

Another detail missing from the carriers' announcements is how much you can expect to pay for the Hydrogen One. However, the question still remains of whether or not consumers are ready to throw down $1200 for a phone made by a company they may or may not have heard of before.

The phone was originally slated to ship during the first three months of 2018, so it is already late to market. The carrier hasn't disclosed any specific release date, but it certainly looks like the Hydrogen One is going to soon be available in stores. Neither outfit commented on pricing although as you may recall, Red offered the device via pre-order for a limited time starting at $1,295 for the aluminum version and $1,595 for a titanium-clad example.
