Hedge fund heaps criticism on Tesla after Musk's conference call

Elon Musk has had to contend with production problems with the Model 3 car

When asked during a sometimes-contentious conference call with analysts Wednesday whether he would want to raise additional cash even if Tesla doesn't need it, he insisted he wouldn't do so. Both Toni Sacconaghi of Bernstein and RBC's Joseph Spak have the equivalent of "neutral" ratings on Tesla.

Back in 2012, Musk commented on the short interest on Tesla's stock and warned that anyone holding a stock position against the company will have a "tsunami of hurt" coming for them. "It's actually thinking they know more about Autopilot than they do, like quite a significant understanding of it".

Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk defended his dismissive treatment of Wall Street analysts earlier in the week, saying they represented people betting against the Silicon Valley electric-car maker while also conceding it was "foolish" not to answer them. And once they were on the call", Musk admitted, "I should have answered their questions live.

CNBC reported that Musk's decision to ignore the questions pushed Tesla's stock down by 5.6 percent Thursday. "They're killing me", he said before moving on from Spak and Sacconaghi's questions.

Jerry Jones Gives Jason Witten Diamond-Covered Football as Retirement Present
After 15 seasons, Witten has made a decision to hang it up and move to the booth, announcing " Monday Night Football " for ESPN . Most felt Witten would become a coach after his playing days, but he joked that the broadcaster's lifestyle is a little better.

As NPR's Sonari Glinton reports, investors are getting nervous about the production delays in Tesla's most affordable model, and the company's stock has been volatile. "Please sell our stock and don't buy it".

"This is a financial analyst call, this is not a TED talk", the analyst said, adding that Musk's behavior was concerning because it shows he's not interested in the financial side of his "visionary" projects. "Boring, bonehead questions are not cool".

In response to RBC's "absurd" question regarding the percentage of Model 3 reservations that Tesla had started to configure, Musk said that Tesla has roughly a half a million reservations, despite no advertising and no cars in showrooms.

However, his justification for calling out the other analyst speaks to how much work Tesla still has in front of it. Musk argues it would be impossible to fulfill existing Model 3 orders even if production goals are met, due to high demand.
