Jerry Jones Gives Jason Witten Diamond-Covered Football as Retirement Present

Another Cowboys player is coming to TV: Jason Witten will join ESPN's 'Monday Night Football'

After 15 seasons, Witten has made a decision to hang it up and move to the booth, announcing "Monday Night Football" for ESPN.

The team announced a news conference for Thursday afternoon with Witten, Jones and coach Jason Garrett, but didn't specify a topic.

This one was different, though. According to the Star-Telegram, Witten played in 15 games during his rookie season and started all 16 games for every season after that. Romo had lost his job to Dak Prescott while injured and was deciding last offseason whether to play elsewhere. With Byron Jones, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis now holding claims to the starting three CB positions, the Cowboys electing to forego adding another to the room speaks very well for the 2017 sixth rounder from Florida State. Though Witten never won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys, he'll have a spot in the team's Ring of Honor and could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Another in an impressive line of Stanford products to play the position, Schultz comes from the same mold as Witten, a complete tight end who can be a factor in both the running and passing games.

He ends his National Football League career as second all-time in receptions and receiving yards for a tight end and with the reputation as a role model on and off the field.

Witten is tied with Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Bill Bates and the late Mark Tuinei for most seasons by a Dallas player. And then there is Troy Aikman, who has been the top guy at Fox Sports for years.

The only Monday night game for the Cowboys is November 5 at home against the Tennessee Titans.

Britain, France and Germany support Iran nuclear deal
Macron said he had pushed the idea of a much broader Iran agreement with Trump, which was received "very positively". But, with powerful hardliners at odds with the reformists now in power, nothing is certain when it comes to Iran.

Witten, who turns 36 on Sunday, had been mulling his decision over the last week and he follows in the footsteps of one of his quarterbacks.

One wavering moment came when the tight end turned to owner Jerry Jones on a stage in front of his family, teammates and club employees in what normally serves as the dining room in the team's practice facility. "Disappointed we couldn't get it done this year".

"I was never the most talented, never the flashiest". His iconic moment came in 2007 when he ran almost 30 yards and was tackled without a helmet after it was knocked off in a collision with two defenders.

The Cowboys hung that picture over the entrance to their indoor practice field long before Witten pondered retirement.

Most felt Witten would become a coach after his playing days, but he joked that the broadcaster's lifestyle is a little better. It was the sort of gesture usually reserved for retired players. He spent two seasons walking under it. The Dallas pass catcher holds numerous franchise receiving records including most career receptions, most career receiving yards and most consecutive seasons with a reception, among others.

The question now as Round 2 of the draft got underway on that Friday night seemed to not be if the Cowboys would pick up a tight end, but rather when.
