Zuckerberg Announces Facebook Dating Feature at Developer Conference

F8 2018 How to Watch Oculus Go Announcement Privacy Scandal and More

Facebook users will soon be able to clear their browsing history on the social network.

"Apps and websites that use features such as the Like button or Facebook Analytics send us information to make their content and ads better", Facebook Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan explained in a blog post.

Shares in Match Group (MTCH), owner of mobile app Tinder, plunged Tuesday after Facebook (FB) announced a new dating layer to its main mobile app.

Zuckerberg delivered his keynote speech at the McEnery Convention Center to an audience with a big stake in the Menlo Park-based social network's success: developers who create third-party apps and technologies, and many more watching live on the internet.

"This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hook-ups", Zuckerberg said as he unveiled the plans at Facebook's annual developers conference.

Deal reached for rebels to evacuate southern Damascus' Yarmouk Camp
In that same period, at least 19 civilians have also been killed in regime bombardment of the area including in Yarmuk, it said. Regime forces were locked in violent clashes with IS fighters on Friday morning, the Britain-based monitor said.

The dating feature would be opt-in only and users would be able to build their profile out of the view of their Facebook friends. The feature will be a "simple control to clear your browsing history on Facebook", according to Zuckerberg's post.

Damian Collins, who chairs the House of Commons' Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, wrote a letter to Facebook's head of United Kingdom policy, Rebecca Stimson, saying that testimony from another company executive last week has left a lot of unanswered questions. "We need to do more to keep people safe, and we will", but he added that Facebook's primary goal is to "bring people together".

Mr Collins has said that Facebook must provide answers after an investigation alleged Cambridge Analytica, a British political campaigns firm, potentially unlawfully acquired and kept information about users. For Facebook, it's also meant further limiting the data developers can access and how long they can access it; several audits; and the suspension of apps suspected of violating Facebook's rules around user privacy.

"We're flattered that Facebook is coming into our space - and sees the global opportunity that we do", Match CEO Mandy Ginsberg said in an e-mailed statement.

Zuckerberg also addressed the recent departure of Jan Koum, the co-founder and CEO of messaging platform WhatsApp, which Facebook acquired for $19.3 billion in 2014. "I think the tone is going to be hopefully positive but I think also conciliatory at the same time", said Williamson.
