Instagram Will Reportedly Get These Five New Features for Stories and Posts
Instagram also announced today that it is rolling out video chat in the coming weeks, a redesigned Explore page that is organized by topic channels, and a "bullying filter" that will filter out "comments meant to harass or upset people in the Instagram community".
To start a video chat, users tap the revamped camera icon atop a direct Instagram message thread to launch the live chat. Now, when you tap the Share menu while playing a song in Spotify (such as that hot new Bobby Tarantino II mixtape) or viewing a photo or video you took with a GoPro in the GoPro app, you can share the content directly to your story.
Just tap the share button in an app like Spotify to share what you're listening to directly into the camera. A recent API update is allowing other apps to share directly to Instagram Stories, similar to the tool that allowed other apps to post to the Instagram timeline. You don't have to connect your Instagram account to other apps in order to share to Stories. Building on that success, the new Explore design is adding topic channels to uncover content on your personal interests and tastes as well as offer more control over content.
After Instagram lifted Snapchat stories and made them better and more popular, the running joke is that anything Snapchat does, Instagram is likely to follow.
More apps will soon support the feature as well.
Instagram is launching interactive camera "experiences" that will allow users to grab snippets from other accounts and add them to their Stories. That was a conscious choice from the company's founders, who wanted to make sure that everything posted on the app was a reflection of what a user created, not what they curated from others. If you see a new sticker or filter, you can hit "Try it on", and you'll be able to test it out.
Zuckerberg Announces Facebook Dating Feature at Developer Conference
The dating feature would be opt-in only and users would be able to build their profile out of the view of their Facebook friends. The feature will be a "simple control to clear your browsing history on Facebook ", according to Zuckerberg's post .
WhatsApp first brought video calling to WhatsApp back in 2016.
Instagram says you will also be able to minimize the video chat and browse through Instagram while the chat is running. Stickers are also coming to WhatsApp soon.
Instagram is also apparently looking at adding a slow-mo recording feature to Stories.
The new Explore will be rolling out over the coming weeks.
Instagram's testing video calls right now and will expand them to all users "soon". You can also watch all F8 keynotes on the Facebook for Developers Page.
