Corbyn anti-Semitism promises 'fell short', Jewish leaders say

The Jewish community demanded'enough is enough in a protest warning Labour must tackle the anti Semitism problem

The Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council said after the 2½-hour meeting at Westminster that the Labour leader failed to agree to any of the concrete actions they had called for.

Before the meeting, Corbyn acknowledged that anti-Semitism had surfaced within his party and apologised for the pain this had caused.

Co-chair of the Jewish Voice for Labour Jenny Manson voiced these concerns during an interview with BBC Radio 4 on April 24 and added that most anti-Semitic comments made to MPs were done via social media, with numerous offenders using anonymous accounts.

"When members of Jewish communities express genuine anxieties, we must recognise them as we would those of any other community", he said.

After the meeting, spokespeople for the two Jewish groups told reporters they were surprised at the lack of action, saying Corbyn's team had known about their specific demands for some time.

Corbyn reiterated after Tuesday's meeting that he was committed to stamping out the problem.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews is composed of nearly 300 representatives elected by synagogues and other Jewish organizations from across the United Kingdom, and seeks to advocate for the interests of the Jewish community among British decision-makers.

The Cardinals are Looking to Move Up in the Draft
I promise that Josh Allen will not be any good which is why I am also positive the Browns will draft him, it's just what they do. Even so, General Manager Steve Keim has always been willing to fortify a strength, as last year's choice of Baker proved.

"Labour staff have seen examples of Holocaust denial, crude stereotypes of Jewish bankers, conspiracy theories blaming 9/11 on Israel".

Corbyn's statement following the encounter seemed as if he had been at a different meeting.

Andrew Gwynne, the shadow communities secretary, who helped to mastermind last year's election campaign, said Mr Corbyn must work to rebuild trust with the Jewish community.

The manager of Corbyn's office, Laura Murray, apologized for the cancellation and vowed the Labour leadership was committed "to engaging with the Jewish community".

He admitted the internal checks of the party had "been simply not fully fit for purpose" and said "we did not look closely enough at ourselves".

Last week, British members of Parliament from both sides of the Conservative-Labour political divide directed their anger at Corbyn in a highly charged debate on antisemitism - the first of its kind in the House of Commons.

While acknowledging that they "welcomed Mr. Corbyn's personal involvement in the discussion and his new comments recognizing and apologizing for anti-Semitism in the Labour Party", the statement insisted that "words in letters and newspaper articles will never be enough".
