PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi weigh in on corruption

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Civil Services Day

With crucial state polls around the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday cautioned BJP MPs and MLAs against making needless remarks, which he said gave the media "masala", damaged the party's image and the nation.

On Sunday, Modi seemed to make a reference to two BJP ministers' comments on the Kathu rape case, saying that legislators should apply restraint before commenting on sensitive issues. "They'll (media) obviously use parts of your sentences as per their convenience".

He also urged the party leaders to utilize the full potential of social media in connecting with the people.

PM Modi also appreciated MLAs of his party for connecting with people on a ground level.

As the BJP gears up for a fierce electoral battle against the ruling Congress in Karnataka on May 12, Modi also emphasised that the BJP is no longer a party of a particular community or limited to urban areas nor is it a north Indian party.

While addressing the leaders of the party, Modi said that their connection with the people has made a positive change by ensuring that the schemes launched by the party reach the masses, along with the concerns of the people reaching the lawmakers.

Islamic State claims responsibility for Kabul bomber who killed 48 people
At least 57 people are said to have been killed, including children, and more than a hundred others have been injured. Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health confirmed the death toll and the number of wounded, TOLO News reported.

Interacting with BJP MPs and MLAs through the NaMo App, PM Modi also said party members should not always blame the media for blowing things out of proportion since it was them who provide "masala" to the Press.

PM Modi added that women in self-help groups are coming up with new employment opportunities in various sectors. "The biggest strength of any village is its unity", he said.

Talking of his governments ambitious health insurance scheme, Ayushmaan Bharat, he said wellness centres will be built in over 1.5 lakh panchayats by 2022 with the programme aiming to cover 10 crore families with a cover of Rs 5 lakh. "More than 1,000 officers of the Union government are visiting 500 districts in the country to inform the people about the work being done by the government".

To a question on improving lives of people in villages, he laid stress on the collective power of people and referred to Anna Hazares village in Maharashtra where the social activist had focused on cleanliness and how the village had become a model for others to follow.
