Syria Says False Alarm Set Off Its Air Defenses

Syrian state news agency SANA cited a military source as saying a number of air defence missiles had been fired but no foreign attack had taken place.

The reports claimed that six missiles targeted the Shayrat airbase in the province of Homs, but majority were intercepted.

Near Damascus, pro-regime media had reported that three missiles had been launched at the Damir air base close to the capital.

The US has determined that the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons in the country, and conducted limited military strikes on Saturday along with Britain and France.

Syria has strongly rejected the allegations as fabrication.

Syrian state-run television reported early Tuesday that the nation's air defenses were confronting a new "aggression", shooting down missiles over the area of Homs in the country's center. "We do not have additional details to provide".

It's a matter on which he has been criticized by Trump, regarding the FBI's handling of the investigation. And then he said , 'Another reason you know it's not true is I'm a germaphobe.

State-run television showed images of an intercepted missile and called the attack an "aggression".

Up to 10 missiles were destroyed by the Syrian Armed Forces, a military source told Sputnik.

No country has yet claimed the attack after midnight but U.S. officials recently said that Washington wasn't planning another strike after the missile strike on Saturday.

Shayrat airbase was targeted previous year in a U.S. cruise missile attack in response to an alleged chemical attack on the militant-held town of Khan Shaykhun.

Defense Secretary Mattis said at the time that no follow-up attacks were planned and that the Pentagon was careful to ensure the safety of Russian troops and Syrian civilians in the area.

Some reports pointed fingers at Israel, which carried similar attacks in the past against Iranian interests directly or their proxy presence in Syria.
