Amazon, Best Buy partner to sell Fire smart TVs

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos with Best Buy

Starting this summer, Best Buy will launch more than 10 4K and HD Fire TV Edition models made by Toshiba and Insignia. Best Buy will sell third-party brands along with its own house-brand Insignia Fire TV Edition smart TVs, both physically, on its own website and at Amazon.

Roku's stock plummeted after Amazon and Best Buy said they are teaming up to sell smart TVs.

The new Fire TV Edition televisions are 4K sets that have Amazon's Fire platform built in. The devices will be sold exclusively through Best Buy and Amazon.com and via the retailer's chain of brick-and-mortar stores.

Jeff Bezos declares, "Amazon and Best Buy have a long history of working together, and today we take our partnership to a new level".

Mexican leader, US VP Pence to meet over ties, NAFTA talks
US President Donald Trump has threatened to kill NAFTA if it is not changed to secure better terms for USA workers and companies. The joint operation was in response to a suspected chemical attack in the city of Douma last week.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos boasted that the new TVs will "deliver lovely visuals and all the movies and TV shows you love, with an experience that gets better every day with Alexa".

This morning, Best Buy and Amazon announced an unexpected partnership, if you can believe it. Google's Chromecast can be plugged into a TV to offer streaming services and the company also has the Google Home speaker, complete with its own nameless voice assistant.

The Amazon Fire TV has been around for a few years now and has seen some success. "Clearly, Amazon has been a leader in the bolt-on business with the Fire TV sticks and boxes, but they were behind a little bit in getting out to televisions". By Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Best Buy had "stolen the show" as the most prepared retailer using voice shopping, according to a report from managed analytics firm Ugam.

To illustrate the goodwill between the two rivals, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly announced the partnership in person on Tuesday at a Best Buy in Bellevue, Wash. "In fact, Amazon was more expensive on 13% to 14% of those similar items". Now they're odd bedfellows, at least when it comes to TVs. The products will be available in the U.S. and Canada starting this summer.
