Rahul slams Modi's deafening silence on rape horror, says India is waiting

Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders hit streets demanding #JusticeForAsifa, gather at India Gate

Congress president raised the Beti Bachao slogan to showcase the large number of rapes, molestations, and attacks on college girls and working women in public transport, domestic violence, and police stations.

Congress sources said the midnight vigil was Rahul's idea and at his behest, it was projected as an "apolitical" event that could get the support of NGOs and commoners alike who may have apprehensions on aligning with a political party.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior party leaders Salman Khurshid, Ahmed Patel, Ashok Gehlot, and Ambika Soni also took part in the protest.

"Thousands of men and women stood up to be counted in the battle for justice and to protest the rising acts of violence against girls and women". You can see people across parties have joined. The government should ensure that the women of India feel safe.

Gandhi on Thursday led a midnight march to India Gate in New Delhi to protest against both the rape cases and prodded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to walk the talk on saving the girl child.

France says 'large part' of Syria chemical arsenal destroyed
He said that the Syrian leader had launched a "savage" chemical weapons attack previously and again recently. They say this is evidence that the victims were exposed to a nerve agent.

Reacting to Modi's comments, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said: "We are thankful that the Prime Minister has spoken at last..." With the ongoing Unnao and Kathua rape cases, the Indian social media has been abuzz with the words - "rape horror".

The Congress workers badgered Priyanka Gandhi to express their anger and grief over the incidents of rape in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua and Uttar Pradesh's Unnao.

"PM Modi should begin working towards saving the women of the country", said Rahul. The child was held captive inside a temple, tortured and killed allegedly because the accused wanted to scare away the nomadic Muslim Bakarwal community.

Earlier, on Thursday, BJP MP Lal Singh said, "Those responsible for rape and murder of the 8-year-old in Kathua should be nabbed". Among the accused in the case are police officers and a retired government official. The incident came to light when she attempted to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth's residence in Lucknow.

On January 17, the body of a minor girl was found in the forests near Rasana, Hiranagar.
