Facebook knows about users from third party apps and websites too

Sen. Orrin Hatch R-Utah second from left questions Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a joint hearing of the Commerce and Judiciary Committees

Facebook says it can collect personal data as many websites and apps use the social networking giant's services to make their content and ads more engaging and relevant.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took home just $1 for his annual base salary previous year, but the company shelled out almost $9 million on his security and private planes. In this instance, there are also issues considering the fact that, since you are not with the service, you technically never had the option to decline. And to get people to join (or re-join) the site.

David Baser, Facebook's product management director, claims that Facebook isn't the only company that offers such tools and has access to user data.

"Whether it's information from apps and websites, or information you share with other people on Facebook, we want to put you in control - and be transparent about what information Facebook has and how it is used".

Facebook says it uses this data to enhance its own products and services, improve safety and security on the social network and to continue providing its services to third-party websites and apps.

Facebook Analytics provides developers information on how people are spending time on their websites and apps.

The blog post states that it is not just Facebook that collects such data.

Gmail redesign could feature self-destructing emails
You'll know this if you've ever tried to say something to your smart speaker while someone else is talking at the same time. The main objective of the new design is to give users, a much more consistent user experience.

The company also said it will reward people with first-hand knowledge and proof of cases where a Facebook platform app collects and transfers people's data to another party to be sold, stolen or used for scams or political influence.

For those without a Facebook account who are concerned about the company tracking them across the web, there is little that can be done to stay away from its Eye of Sauron-like gaze. If they do, we'll show them ads from the same advertisers that are targeting them on Facebook.

Facebook is now under scrutiny for whether they sell users' data on to third parties. The executive wrote: "These companies-and many others-also offer advertising services".

Raj Samani, McAfee's Chief Scientist, recently explained why he doesn't believe deleting Facebook is the right step for most of us. We don't sell people's data. "It's not a binary thing, it's not about switching it on or off".

Not only did Cambridge Analytica get secluded, uncommon, highly useful data from those who actually downloaded the game; Cambridge Analytica reeled in those same kinds of information from the entire friends' lists of Facebook users that had simply downloaded the game. "If you've looked at travel sites, we can show you ads for hotels and rental cars", he said. "But that's subjective. At the moment, we don't have those three points addressed".

A study by think-tank the Ponemon Institute found just 27% of people think Facebook will protect their privacy, compared to 79% in 2017.
