Naomi Campbell cries as she pays tribute to Mam'Winnie
The debates, and complexities of the struggle icon are set to continue. Since apartheid ended in the 1990s, she served in several government roles, including as a member of parliament and leader of the ruling party's women's league.
"And to those who've vilified my mother through books, on social media and speeches, don't for a minute think we've forgotten", she said, flanked by her sister Zindziswa Mandela-Hlongwane. She felt compelled to speak when others were rendered silent.
After the completion of the official state funeral service - which included speeches by Ramaphosa, EFF leader Julius Malema and Mandela-Dlamini in the Orlando Stadium, the casket was loaded into the hearse, surrounded by sobbing supporters.
Ramaphosa said, "We must continue to touch Mama's wounds, acknowledge her huge pain and torment, and pass on the stories of her suffering to future generations so that it may always be known that Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a giant, a pathfinder, a soldier, a healer, a champion of people's struggles and forever the Mother of the Nation". We see you in your attractive suits! Madikizela-Mandela denied any knowledge of any killings.
Winnie Mandela was a victorious fighter, and so are those she defeated.
Mandela divorced her in 1996, claiming infidelity and saying that after his release from prison, his wife made him "the loneliest man". What about those who killed their husbands for selfish gains? And to her there was no contradiction in this choice, because she cherished freedom as much as she treasured her family.
Instead she remained embedded in the community where she met Nelson Mandela at a bus stop in 1957. This reached a crescendo as the procession, led by police motorcycles, arrived.
"You wanted us to come back to the ANC - to which ANC? She bandaged our wounds ... we did not do the same for her", Ramaphosa said. "As a nation and a continent we also have a chance to be lovely and stand for that which is true to humanity", she said.

The EPA now bans the 15-percent blend, called E15, during the summer because of concerns that it contributes to smog on hot days. In January, he said he would be open to reconsidering the deal if the USA could strike a " substantially better " agreement.
"I'm sorry Mama that your organisation (ANC) delayed in according you its honour".
"As we bid her farewell, we are forced to admit that too often as she rose, she rose alone". When we could not be with her, she wrote letters to us.
She lived in constant naked contact with danger, prepared to lose her life, even the life of her own children who were put into danger by her political activities.
"Mama, the widows of Marikana are still in tears. It was a life of compassion", said the president.
In a eulogy read by Mandela's daughter Princess Zenani Mandela-Dlamini, the family said that Winnie had been painted so negative by the society and thus praising her at this moment will not redeem the image. She was the eyes and ears of the world during those dark days.
Ramaphosa said she defied apartheid ideology and male superiority.
For years, she was routinely harassed by apartheid-state security forces, imprisoned and tortured. Yet, through everything, she endured.
Responding to Malema, the president said, "The wounds you are talking about are real wounds but today is the time to heal those wounds".
