Donald Trump to lift legal threat to states that permit marijuana use

Trump Promised Senator No Federal Crackdown On Legal Weed, But Who Even Knows

Marijuana has been fully legalized in eight states, and 24 states allow some form of marijuana use.

President Donald Trump has reportedly lent his help to a US senator from Colorado, promising to once more legal guidelines that "protects states' rights" on legalized marijuana.

In exchange, Gardner said he has agreed to lift his remaining holds on Justice Department nominees.

It may be modeled on a 2014 budget amendment that prevented the Department of Justice from spending money to enforce federal laws against marijuana users and businesses in states that legalized the drug and were following all applicable state laws.

"Since the campaign, President Trump has consistently supported states' rights to decide for themselves how best to approach marijuana", Gardner said Friday.

In January, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Justice Department had rescinded a series of Obama-era memos that had discouraged federal prosecution of marijuana operations operating in accordance with state law but in violation of federal law, which still considers marijuana a Schedule I substance.

Maybe a little bit in terms of getting the tyres absolutely flawless for the lap but it's not half a second. Vettel's only victory there was in Y 2009 when he was driving for Red Bull .

Trump's promise to the Senator diffuses the standoff that's been taking place between Gardner and nominees for the Justice Department.

"Furthermore", Gardner added, "President Trump has assured me that he will support a federalism-based legislative solution to fix this states' rights issue once and for all". Especially infuriating, from Gardner's perspective, was that Sessions had pledged during his confirmation process for attorney general that he would leave states that had legalized marijuana alone, according to the senator.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders affirmed the accounts of the president's thinking of Gardner - but Sessions' reaction wasn't immediately known.

"The President did speak with the senator", she said.

During the 2016 presidential effort, candidate Trump mentioned countries need to be in a position to decide their own bud coverages. I think it's up to the state's yeah, I'm a states person. "Until there is a formal agreement protecting Washington's well-regulated marijuana industry, I will continue to stand ready to defend it", Ferguson said.

Matt Fox, a spokesman for the Marijuana Policy Project, which advocates state control of marijuana laws, said this was a positive step in the short and long term - as a signal to Sessions to get more in line with Trump's previously-stated views on marijuana policy and as motivation for lawmakers to seriously tackle marijuana policy reform. On Friday, Gardner said he was releasing his hold entirely. Trump's backing is seen as key to getting a bill by Congress. Replacements of any of those officials would require new nominations. Gardner has met with Courses and Deputy Authorized skilled Regular Rod Rosenstein, the official overseeing the Russian Federation probe who has been the aim of Trump's ire.
